Don't worry about Fordham , just saw on a site of associates in a big law firm that there are quite a few of them from Fordham and other lesser known universities.

Well, Fordham has a great location but is definitively not as famous as Columbia. It's correct that some JDs managed to get positions in BigLaws but as far as I know it's quite impossible for LLMs from Fordham to find a permanent or foreign position in NYC in a top 50 law firm.

hi mafenyc,
I send an e-mail to fordham, look their answer :
" Your application for admission to the Master of Laws Program at Fordham University School of Law has been received, but it is incomplete.
You have marked on your application that you will not be taking the TOEFL test until July 2006. If this is the case, your application will not be reviewed in time to be considered for the Fall 2006. We recommend that you schedule to take the TOEFL test no later than mid-April.
We will not process your application until we hear from you. If you would like your application returned to you, please advise.
We begin to accept applications for Fall 2007 admission after November 1, 2006 until February 28, 2007."
they send me this answer the april,third,2006
I'am french and my english is too bad to pass the TOEFL quickly like they ask me.
how many years for the half-time program?
the TOEFL exam is difficult??
I was thinking to pass the TOEFL exam with EF languages schools in 8 weeks this summer but the EF languages school in PARIS speak me about 6 months (university preparation course )
do you think it's a good investment?6 months cost 6000 USD or 8000 USD.
i send an another application to fordham university for the fall semester 2007.
I'm discouraged.
Good Luck!

I got offered a place by NYU but had to decline the offer. Columbia didn't offer me a place... but at the end it's was all far too expensive for the tiny work opportunities.
My degrees are:
Deug droit francais - mention passable
Deug droit angloamericain - mention assez bien
Licence - mention assez bien
Licence droit anglo americain - mention assez bien
Maitrise - mention bien
Maitrise droit anglo americain - mention bien
DESS - mention assez bien
LLM (UK) - merits (ce qui équivaut a 'mention assez bien')
Like the guy above I have poetry and a novel published.
I also have 5 years experience as a 'juriste' and a couple of years experience as a Marketing Manager and Business Development Manager.
I was exempt from taking the Toefl, but I doubt they care much about the Toefl points.

hi sauvageonne,
do you live in Paris?
could you explain me how is possible to be exempt to taking the TOEFL.?
why did you say " I doubt they care much about the Toefl points"?
they answer me (fordham) that it was impossible to take my application for the spring 2006 if i don't pass the TOEFL befor april.
to do the TOEFL, can i have your advice?
i 'm in contact with EF school, for the TOEFL test.
In a first time i was thinking to pass the TOEFL test in 3 months (intensive course) but i do an on-line test and they answer me that i need 9 months of intensive courses.
i m in maitrise of business law, i learn english like is possible in french college and lycee (you know the french level).
If i do this english course during 9 months, i can't apply for the spring 2007.i don't want waiting 2008
what do you think?do you know this kind of school?
they say me 9 month only for the money do you think?

Don't worry...look at this website: www.ets.org/toefl ...there are different dates for toefl exam, you just register and then book a seet in your country (140 $). I suggest you to look at June or July for exams. By the time buy this book of exercises for your preparation: "The official guide to the new toefl ibt" McGraw Hill Editor 2006...it contains also a cd for exercises...I did it in only one month and then passed the toefl exam with good score.Ciao Tortello

thanks for your informations.
just this book is enough?
do you think one month is enough to have 250 at the toefl score?if i study alone?
which score did you have?
what was your level in english befor study to pass the TOEFL?
do you think is a good idea or if is it obsolutely necessary to do intensive course (3 or 6 months).
i think my level is 10 or 11/20 when i study for a test, and 6/20 if i doesn't study for the test.
thanks

take an intensive course for your grammar...the book is good for preparing toefl. My English was quite good before...according to me 3-4 months 4 you should be enough

Hi there!
As a French alumnus from the University of Chicago Law School (2003) who has worked in NYC for four years, I would be glad to share insights with anyone interested in Chicago or another law school. Chicago is very, very different from the typical LLM experience so it's not a decision to make on the sole basis of US News rankings...
E-mail me with any queries.
Cheers
