A few days ago I did ask about deferral policy in light of covid-19 crisis. They told me that it is too soon to know how this situation will unfold so they would advise us about our options further on. Given the circumstances, it is very hard to make a decision to enroll not knowing exactly what the deferral policy will be. However, they added today that they are waiting for University guidance on how to deal with this matter and that we might have some more answers early next week - hopefully before the April 1st deadline.

I wrote them today asking for expedited financial aid decision. I'll let you know as soon as I receive an answer.

Anyway, I suppose that it's easier for them to decide quickly whether someone gets in than if someone should receive any financial aid.

Asked for an expedited decision on the financial aid last Monday and got my answer today :)

Did you receive an answer on both? I got admitted today but nothing on FinAid.

I had requested for an expedited decision on March 21 and received an admission offer this morning (4:13 am, Indian Standard). Had not requested for any financial aid. My first deposit deadline is April 6, 2020 and second deposit deadline is April 15, 2020.

Any admitted LLM students out here (even in other US Universities) who have apprehensions about securing a student visa by August 2020? My cardinal issue is the fact that the US State Department has suspended all visa applications (including student visas) until further notice. In the worst case scenario, even if they resume such services by say July, there will be a mammoth rush to process applications/interviews and it will be ridiculously difficult to obtain a student visa before classes commence in August.

May I ask how much of financial aid did you receive? is it associated with some kind of fellowship or scholarship?

I have been admitted to CLS, however I am still waiting for Stanford's decision. I want to secure my place at CLS in case I get rejected. Therefore, I will pay 1000$ as a deposit.
However, my concern is - what are the consequences if I later on decide not to attend CLS?

They sent an email saturday night regarding their approach to the covid-19 crisis.

I got the following email re visas & a small covid update on Wed 25th March:

"Like many of you, we in GLS are trying to adjust to our new routines and to working from home. As you may have heard, the U.S. government has temporarily suspended visa services worldwide. Our colleagues in Columbia’s International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO), which handles all immigration matters for international students, are closely monitoring the situation and keeping individual schools and departments informed of any new developments.

Columbia University and ISSO have created an informational webpage in response to the COVID-19 health crisis: ISSO COVID-19 Hub. Their office remains operational and continues to process I-20 applications and answer your questions. We strongly encourage you to begin the online visa application process as soon as possible, so that you have all of the necessary documents to apply for your visa once consular services resume. If you do not need a visa to study at Columbia, please send us an email to let us know.

In the meantime, we urge students to continue with their plans for August as normal, in the hopes that the COVID-19 situation will be contained by then, and to keep in close contact with us and ISSO as the situation evolves. At Columbia Law School, we are planning for normal operations in the 2020-2021 academic year at this time. "
