Columbia Fall 2015 LLM

No news yet for the ERs. Someone told me they'll send the e-mails on December 21st, but I can't confirm the reliability. Does anyone know?

No news yet?? The wait is killing me!

Maybe it´s true what bpg heard but the 21st is Sunday...

Statement of Class Rank. Just discovered why my application isn't complete. Ugh!

Dear grumpyJD,

I wrote to Columbia's Office of Graduate Legal Studies to explain the possibility of my school not including the statement to indicate that they do not use "class rankings" due to some misunderstanding on their part.

I have received a reply indicating a waiver from the requirement subject to me providing the office with further information as and when required.

Perhaps you can try and contact the office to relate your predicament.

Hi Amir- Thanks for the suggestion. A waiver would have been a good idea but it's all sorted now. When I contacted the law school, they sent the letter straight to LSAC the same day. Not typical, I know, but the administration at my law school are just phenomenally responsive. I was a bit concerned about the timing but LSAC and the postal services came through. Now I just have to wait and see... fingers crossed. And best of luck to you!!

That's wonderful, can't say the same about my university. Took me ages to get their assistance in sending over my transcripts to LSAC.

No news yet. I'm guessing it'll be by the 22nd or 23rd, as they'll probably go on recess for the holidays, right?

Hey

I'm applying to CLS for Fall 2015. More specifically for arbitration.
My school administration is unbelievably unreachable and they seem confused about the statement of rank requirement. I asked a couple of my seniors and they said they don't remember it from previous years.
Do you think I can ignore it completely? Or should I email them? It's just that my school is so unresponsive, I have no way to find out if they have issued something to another applicant from my school and not me.

Help please!

Well, the statement of rank (or the statement declaring that your school does not rank students) is a requirement for your application to be considered complete, you can verify this in the CLS site after submiting your app.

I managed to ask for the department in charge of student affairs and grades registry to provide me with two certifications, one with the total number of students in my class and a second one with my grades and position in reference to the average score of that year, I believe this type of certifications are considered as a valid rank reference, but you better ask the Office of graduate admissions for guidance. I had the same problem, since mine is a public school with a massive number of students.

Hey, I just received an offer from Columbia a few hours ago! Got a phone call from the Dean. I'm from Australia. Has anyone else heard through the early review?

Thanks everyone!

Oxbridgeguy- I did a double degree of Commerce and Law, and received first class hons. I then worked as an Associate to a Supreme Court Judge for two years and am now in private practice in commercial litigation.

2014llm- do you mind if I ask where you are from?

Thanks everyone!

costello, 2014llm, congratulations on your offers. Being among the first of the early review candidates to receive good news is a sign that your credentials are extremely strong and if you have applied to harvard or yale I would bet on you getting offers there as well.
