CLS and NYU

Hello to everybody, what do you think are the main differences between the profiles of CLS and NYU LLM's??
(real ones, not just what is stated on the websites)

I have the same doubts, but I'm inclined to think that CLS is a superior school - better ranked and Ivy League. Nevertheless, I'd also appreciate other thoughts on the topic.

I've been admitted to CLS and am currently waiting for a decision from NYU.

If I got a substantial scholarship (like full tuition or Hauser) I would go to NYU. However, taking the financial consideration out, definitely Columbia - as it's Ivy League and for what I want to specialise in (int'l law) it has stellar faculty and resources.

with respect, 1) NYU's international law faculty is notably strong and is in no way weaker than columbia - if anything its arguably stronger, 2) CLS does not have greater resources than NYU, 3) the 'ivy league' is a sports league. membership in it means nothing in reality. if you apply your argument to its logical end, then you would rather do your LLM at 'ivy league' Cornell than say Stanford or NYU.

there are myriad good reasons to go to CLS, with respect i don't think those you proffered had any.

were i in your position i would go to NYU, largely because i visited both and love NYU's environment and physical location and hated Columbia's. that said, academically both institutions are neck and neck and you can't go wrong.

With all due respect I don't know anyone who has been accepted to both and has chosen NYU over CLS (except for financial reasons)...but it's a good speach for one that has got in to NYU only = )

I'm having a hard time trying to decide where to go, Columbia or NYU. My focus is international law, business and trade...
I've heard that NYU is better in these subjects, does anyone confirm it?
Thank you.

Tough choice....probably Columbia in terms of reputation...NYU in terms of being in center of manhattan...they are almost equal in terms of academic quality.

Well, if I remember correctly, in Gossip Girl, Serena turns down Yale in favor of Brown at some point.

This thread reminded me of a similar discussion that took place last year. I think there is not much substantive difference, but you can read my take on the difference between CLS and NYU in here:

Disclaimer: I already have an LLM from NYU (and loved it!)
