Can a foreign lawyer be a good lawyer ever in USA?

bbiro

Hi everybody,

First of all I am working on my English, so don't be mad for my grammar.

I live in the USA for 2 years. I have a foreign law degree from Hungary, I did the evaluation, this is a bachelors and a masters law degree (j.D.). I worked in my native country as lawyer in a law firm. About 2 and half years remain to be an attorney on my own feet. So I came here /family decision/, I am not sure wanna stay here long time or not. My dream is working as a lawyer. My question is: Is it worth to go to the University (again), learn, sit for the bar exam? Can a foreign lawyer be a good lawyer in the states. Can you speak ever so good english? Can I have ever job as lawyer, is it possible? Or I have to go back my native country?

If somebody can give me advice, it would be helpful.

I can tell you one thing , nothing is impossible in life in that matter , and in order to get what you want , you must fight for it and do whatever it takes to reach your goal . Besides there is too many good foreign lawyers in the states so not to worry in that case .

Many partners at top law firms are "foreign" (i.e. initially educated in another country). However, the percentage of truly succesful foreign attorneys as compared to number of typical born US attorneys is minimal. It is a very difficult route. Getting into good schools is hard, the language is difficult to master (especially at the level required to work at a top firm) and the competition is tremendous. Good luck.
