Just wanted to ask if anyone else around here is interested in doing jurisprudence/natural law theory during their LL.M.
This is one of my areas of focus (the others are comparative public law and international law). And I am trying to decide between HLS, CLS, Chicago and NYU. My friends and family will think I'm crazy if I don't go to HLS, but as everyone here knows, it's not so easy to decide.
Calling all natural lawyers...which is the best US law school for us?

If you are interested in jurisprudence/natural law theory, go to NYU.
NYU has the best legal philosophy department in America. No other school in the world comes close except Oxford.
Also, NYU's philosophy department is ranked number 1 overall in America and they are particularly strong in political and legal philosophy. You might be able to take some classes in the philosophy department during your LLM.

If you want to have a career in jurisprudence and possibly do a JSD, go to NYU. It's the best school in the world for legal philosophy.

Thanks for your input. Let me ask this: how much do you think I would be "missing out on" if I went to HLS instead? Consider that legal theory is not all I want to do; I also want to do comparative public law and international law. Which faculty would you recommend I seek out at HLS for doing jurisprudence?

Anyone have any ideas about legal theory at Harvard?

what about artificial lawyers, you calling them out too?

Did you apply for NYU's Legal Theory or general studies LLM?

I applied to the general studies LLM, but am considering switching to the legal theory one.

I can't speak to other programs, but I understand Chicago's excellent in law & philosophy

@Irish_Guy: yes, Chicago is excellent. I see that you went there. Did you take any law & philosophy courses when you were there?

Unfortunately, I didn't take any law & philosophy courses, I'm an econ guy :)
I graduated in '05. Since then, I keep hearing how Chicago's becoming a big spot for law & philosophy by hiring some great people in the field (such as Brian Leiter).
That said, I'll be perfectly honest and admit that I know very little about the field of law & philosophy, and certainly can't comment on how Chicago measures up in that area as compared to NYU, for example. As a general experience, though, I can't recommend Chicago enough.

I'm very interested in this, and I think NYU has a commanding lead but Chicago is great too. Columbia has Joseph Raz so they must be good too.

Thanks Irish_Guy for your input. Chicago does seem like an amazing place to study. I think in terms of environment it wins hands down.
For those wishing to do work internationally, though, HLS is an option even though not that many people do jurisprudence there. Does anyone have any comments on Prof. Brewer and Prof. Sargentich at HLS?
@JimAlpert, do you know where you are going or are you still deciding?
