Between U Penn and Berkeley

Bla Bla

Hey guys,

I plan to apply for many law schools for 2010. They are Harvard, Standford, Columbia, NYU, Cornell and the last one is between U Penn and Berkeley.

I'll be doing LLM in Financial laws. Which of the 2 law school would you choose if got admitted?

Many thanks

it all depends on which subject you want to focus. if corporate, go to UPenn and try to take some courses at the Wharton school of business, If you wanna study environmental, public, and so on, you'd rather apply to Berkeley, although I'm afraid you've already run out of time

This is a tough call because they have equally strong LLM Programmes. It ultimately depends on the area you intend to specialize in.

If you're intending an LLM in Finance Law, perhaps the University of Pennsylvania Law School would offer a fine opportunity for LLM students to cross-enroll in the Wharton School, historically known as the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce. As its name suggests, finance has always been the core competency of Wharton. A further opportunity for double degree specializations may also be explored in both the law school and the business school.

The same may be said for the Haas School of Business, which has in recent years strengthened its Financial Engineering programme. While the Wharton School carries with it many years of tradition as the oldest collegiate business school in America, the recent efforts of the Haas School would present good opportunities for Berkeley LLM students to cross-enroll.

Having said that, I believe that Penn would be a better alternative if you are considering an LLM in Finance Law.

Thanks Opinio Juris!! I know it's been about a year since my post. The thing is I have been admitted to both U Penn and Berkeley and now I'm facing the same scenario as the time when I planned to apply (I applied to both of them).

I personally prefer U Penn for many reasons...the only concern is the ranking since Berkeley is 1 rank higher than Penn. I really don't understand why many people regard Berkeley so highly...no offense...I have no idea what is so good about Berkeley (Apart from being in San Francisco). [please shed some light for me if you can]

Thanks
