What were the reasons you gave for the deferral request?

in my request letter i called it "financial constraints" :)

Basically, i had requested financial aid in my application (was granted a paltry sum), so i ended-up getting a private loan, but then once the excitment of getting admission settled, i realized that it probably wasn't a good idea to take a ~USD$ 76K interest-bearing loan to attend an LL.M. program in these market conditions. I am hoping to use the next 18 months to save some money and put my finances "in order" so that i don't have to take such a large loan. I am also planning to apply to several east cost programs next year since they seem to be very generous with their tuition waiver and other fin. aid grants.

Thanks for your answer, Comandante! I'm not Persian but German, the nick is just a nick ;-)

I hope to get a German scholarship that will cover at least as much as the Vandy scholarship. So financial issues do not play the biggest role in my decision. However, it is always nice to have $18,000 more to spend on other things than tuition...

Right now, I'm leaning towards Berkeley. There's still 7 days left to make the final decision, though. And it's very hard to tell the nice people at Vandy that I will withdraw my application.

I am also waiting...
I have to pay the 2nd deposit to U Penn by May 1. Thus, I hope I can hear the final decision from Berkeley by that time.

You are going to do ONE LL.M. Choose the school you like most as the deposit is a drop in the bucket compare to the money you are going to spend (not to mention, the regret you might have later).
