Berkeley vs. NYU

Ind_law

Hi friends, I’ve been admitted to both. Can someone please give few valuable insights, so that I can make an informed decision? Here are some facts...

-no funding from either.
-my profile is constitutional/civil rights/international law and my goal is to pursue research and academics, preferably in the US.
-currently working as a Constitutional Law faculty.
-Berkeley has made two offers: traditional track and thesis track (research based LLM) and if I go there then I will choose Thesis.
-NYU has admitted me to the general LLM.
-cost of living is a concern.
-so is post LLM jobs in legal academia or some international organisation or policy institute is also a concern.
-mostly will pursue a JSD after LLM and JSD stipend is important.
-ability and/or opportunity to secure a paying job after LLM is my priority over the city where I will be doing my LLM.
-NYU does have a few amazing post LLM opportunities such as NYU fellow. However I’m not sure how easy or tough is it to get them. Its under the Public Interest Litigation Center, which also offers post LLM judicial clerkship at the ICJ!
-I’m sure Berkeley also has them, but I didnt come across on their website. Has anyone else come across?
-wherever I go, I will be deferring to the next academic year (2021-22) due to covid and both unis are ready to defer.

So any and all advice is welcome! Thank you.

Hi, I have a different backround but I had also to make this decision.

- Cost of living will not be such a big difference since the area around SF is quiet expensive- to work in international organisation or policy institute, NYU has great connection to the IWF or World Bank (at least I heard so)

- but I can let you know next year
