I couldn't help but notice that Berkeley is the only top-10 school which advertises itself on this website (look on your right-hand side in the main page if you don't know what I mean). Does it mean that Berkeley is not confident in its prestige and fame? Other schools seem unbothered to put a banner in here....it seems like they know that great students will go to them no matter what. Or they act in a smarter way...like Yale or Harvard or Stanford...they discreetly put their names in TV series (see Gossip Girl!), movies or books.
Seriously, I noticed Berkeley and it's one of the things that prevent me from going there. Call me non-sense if you wish but that's how I feel!

Dude, Oxford advertises over on the side. The fact that they are advertising their LLM program on an LLM board is really not a very good reason not to go there.
Posted Mar 19, 2010 06:19
Yeah I feel what you feel... I can see that almost everyone has got admitted to its LLM.... It is a very easy program to get in..:)

Exactly!! The one school that I was so confident of getting was Berkeley. Loads of mediocre students from my country graduated from here...no offense but it's true.
@ NYC Charles: I'm talking about US schools, so Oxford can be excluded from the consideration. But since you mentioned it...I also feel that it's a tad self-degrading for Oxford to advertise it's degree in here. Maybe because it's BCL and not LL.M.??? That's why they feel necessary to advertise????

haha...my country of origin cannot be disclosed :P I just made a very offensive (but true) statement about people who went to this school from my country!! I'm sure Berkeley is a very good school but the alumni in my country obstruct me from wanting to go there.

Berkeley, UCLA, Fletcher, UCL, Oxford, Kings, Leiden, UPenn--all advertise, therefore should not be considered by serious law students. :P

Almost all of the schools you mentioned are not top-10 US law schools. And any serious LL.M. applicants should know the difference between U Penn (an Ivy-League school) and Penn State. I have never seen Penn advertising in here...only Penn State.

I have seen UPenn advertise here. I am quite aware of the difference between the two. And any serious applicant also ought to know the difference between, UK, Europe and US universities. I just cited random examples of the top universities of UK, US and Europe in general who indulge in promotion business. This does not mean I am agreeing with you; nor does it signify a disagreement. It is an observation.

I haven't enrolled anywhere. I'm still waiting for some schools of my choice. However, the deadlines to accept some schools's offers are approaching!!

What are you talking about? This thread is for US law schools and why on earth would you drag top schools in other continents to be involved?? Also, please share if you see a banner of U Penn in here (I checked many times and I have never seen one). Note that advertisement doesn't include the details of programs appearing anywhere else other than the banners on you right hand.
Thanks for the observation though.

Why are you getting so agitated?! Your thread may be on top 10 US law schools but you ought to have mentioned that you would not tolerate the slightest mention of any other top ranked law school from UK or Europe. That said, take a chill pill. Thanks a bunch for noting my observation though. I am indebted in your care!
And I am certain about the UPenn thing. I can assure you of that. Also I am able to distinguish between what constitutes an advertisement and what doesn't. :)
Free advice again--take a chill pill. :)

Look who is actually agitated here. Thanks for your assurance but no thanks. Your assurance counts for nothing without the evidence. Also, the reason that I specifically mentioned US schools was because they are in the same market of competition and if they feel that advertising in here will gain them an edge over other schools, they would do it. I also noticed Oxford, UCL, bla bla bla even before I posted this thread....but they are not relevant.
No chill pill is needed. I dont suggest you take any either...it wont help you anyway.

And I am frightfully embarrassed. :( So let me leave your precious thread to your barks and rants. Excuse me while I go and weep.

@slowbutsure
LOL! That is just the best "idea" I've seen on this forum!
The rankings, prestige, quality of the faculty, location, etc. talk by themselves.
I wonder if your "idea" will still apply if ever HLS,
SLS or Yale decide to advertise here.
BTW this is not the only website where law schools advertise.
(BTW, Harvard Business School, as well as HLS advertise on a lot of other websites/magazines/papers, etc. The same applies to many other schools. Check this one out please: http://www.economist.com/)
Did you consider the multiple reasons that can lead to a business decision such as placing an advertisement?

Very mature. Please only share reasonable insights and stop teasing me for what I said to you because it's so childish. Maybe it's a good idea that you do not give this thread a visit anymore?
Cheers

haha...I know that the reasoning is not the best one and of course your remark is nothing but sarcastic. The thing is if ever Harvard, Stanford or other top schools advertise themselves in the same way, I would not have made my observation. The idea is that only Berkeley does this in here.
Your point is taken when you raise Harvard Business School's advertisement. Do you think business school and law school operate to draw excellent applicants in the same manner? I have no idea about this but just curious.
