I got accepted in both. I want to focus on Corporate law and I did not apply to the K/NU program, but the general program instead.
I know Berkeley is not a Corporate school as Northwestern is but the courses offered at Berkeley related to Corporate are not at all bad.
Which school has more reputation in the US? and Abroad?
Which school is more difficult?
Any advice or opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Berkeley or Northwester

Do you really need to HOG this forum and create repetitive threads with the same content but different title????
Isn't your "NEED HELP" thread created yesterday exactly the same as this one?
Here is my answer: stop acting like a child creating multiple threads about the same s@#$$%. Does that answer your question?

What might be correct on its merits doesn't need to be delivered that rudely. Moreover, there's no harm to you simply ignoring unhelpful posts.

This thread was a lot more interesting (and, ironically, civil) when we were discussing slave's whatever nickname ;-)

get your mind out of the gutter! :)
I am a dedicated jurist, any similarity to any other "occupation" (or past-time) is pure coincidence.

I don't see how my perception about you being a stupid moron translates to being a reflection of my demeanor.
I could be as cool as a cucumber and still think that you are a stupid moron. which i do, both.

WOW, this thread feels like the streets of Fallujah!! :)
slave.lex it seems to me that you need to be "emancipated" before you die of an ulcer :)
In any case, Congratulations alejandrro! Both schools are fine institutions!
I am US attorney (GULC Class of '00) heading to Berkeley to specialize in IP, have been practizing corporate law within a US-based Fortune 100 company with extensive intelectual property concerns around the globe, so i took the offer of getting my employer to pony-up the expense for the LL.M. program given that it is job-related training. :)
To answer you question about reputation, here in the US, both Berkeley and Northwestern are "similarly situated" reputation-wise, UCB is probably better known in the West Coast, but NW has far better name recognition in both the Mid-West and East Coast markets.
Rankings wise (for whatever those are worth) they are both in the Top 10 and historically within about 2 to 3 places in separation of each other, and most people here in the US place them in the same "sub-cluster" within the rankings (i.e. look at them as equals).
In conclusion, I think that school reputation should not be a concern in your decision-making both schools are, for all matters, alike; hence its more of a personal preference issue than a "quality" issue (as someone said in another post "BMW or Mercedez?").
That being said, i don't think anybody thinks of UCB as a "business law" or "corporate law" law school.
Berkeley has historically focused on the "liberal" or "humanist" approach to legal practice and instruction (i.e., historically known for its constituitonal law, civil liberties, human rights focus --- and over the last ten years or so, it has also found a niche for itself in the areas of Environmental Law and Intellectual Property Law, and these mostly because it is located in the "hub" of both the "green revolution" (regarding Environmental) in the US, and the Silicon Valley (regarding its IP program).
Northwestern on the other hand, historically, has had a very strong "commercial/corporate law" program, maybe because its location in Chicago and the influence of the very strong financial, corporate, trading and other commerical activity proper of the city.
Personally, I think that, in the corporate law field, you will find that the quality of the faculty and course selection to be far better at NW that at UCB.
In fact, many US J.D. applicants who want to pursue corporate/commercial law careers usually prefer UCLA over UCB. As anyone who knows the "big names" in the legal scholarship in the US will tell you, the UCLA faculty in these fields (and hence the course selection as well) is far superior to UCB. UCLA (as opposed to UCB) has positioned itself as a commercially-focused law program.
I don't really understand your question about "which school is more difficult" , but if you are concerned about the rigours of their academic programs, again, they are both top 10, so i am sure that they are similar in that respect as well.
Given that you state that you want to specialize in corporate law, I would go to NW if I was you, I don't think that UCB will provide you with the quality and choice of courses and faculty from a "corporate law" perspective.
In fact, it seems to me that most of the people who have been accepted to the UCB LL.M program this year are either pursuing the human rights or IP course paths. What I mean by this is the you will probably meet more people in the NW program who share your professional backrgound, hence making the classes and the discussions (given the use of the Socratic method by both programs) more interesting and productive. Can you imagine sitting in securities regulation class with a group of human rights lawyers or environmentalists ?!? :) (no "pun" intended to my fellow "save the world' lawyer community) :)
Congratulations again, and good luck with your decision!

WOW...that is what I was looking for when I started this thread...thanks a lot US_IP_LLM...you sure did answer many questions and doubts I had....I also think that NW is far more focused on Corporate Law....I wish Chicago hadn't such a bad weather....but you can't have it all in life.
Thanks again!!
Any more opinions, like this one, are very welcomed!!
