Berkeley Financial Aid

Comandante

I am happy to say that i have sorted my finances, through a private loan. See you all at berkeley this august.!!!!

@ Pedrinius

i wish it was only $43,000, but that accounts only for tuition, you have to budget another $30,000 to $35,000 for non-tuition related expenses. I had to borrow $76,000 US dollars.

They say that rent and utilities costs at least about $1,600 per month, and to bugget an additional $1,500 a month for food, transportation, and other misc. personal expenses (so basically, another $30,000 to 35,000 for the academic year)!!! And that does not include books!! A friend who attended Columbia said that books in US law programs can cost anywhere between $1,500 to $2,000 per academic year. It is mindbogling, i guess one does not realize the severity of the financial implications of attending these programs until one actually is faced with the "blessing" of being admitted.

I am expecting that the program total will cost me a little bit more when all is said and done, because the $76K does not include travel back and forth to my country, nor local travelling and leisure expenses (sightseeing, etc.).

I can understand that they cannot give cash grants becasue their own precarious financial situation, but i I wish they were more helpful with at least waiving some of the tuition for international students, but they won't even do that!!.

In any case, Good Luck to ALL!!!

The books you can buy all online!!!! for like 40-50 dollars..used of course..but who cares? :)

SF is very expensive yes. I considered the Summer programme but I guess I will defer waiting for funding decision myself.

They are nº6 so they have a lot of people that want to attend and are willing to pay the full thing!!! I guess that gives them a bit of an advantage.

There are so many great schools in the top 20/30 that I start to realize that they are probably worth going.!!!!
