Admitted to Stanford

mltmhl

Hi everyone, as I know that this issue has been debated out there, I just wanted to let you know that today I have received a very succint email from SLS granting admission to the LLM program in Corporate Governance & Practice. No mention is made to scholarship or any other form of financial aid. My decision is requested by April 19.

For those of you who might be interested, I had enrolled to NYU (accepting full tuition scholarship) just one hour before receiving Stanford email, and I don't think I will reconsider my decision.

I got the same e-mail a few hours ago, also for the corporate governance & practice program. I thought Stanford was going to be a long shot for me, so I feel very very lucky!

No interview for me either.

I also received Stanford admission e-mail today (Corp Governance Program). No telephone interviews. Did not expect to hear from Stanford until April, so came as a very pleasant surprise.

Mltmhl, just a question, does it mean you did not withdraw your application to Stanford upon your acceptance of the full tuition scholarship award from NYU?

Hmmm...if you did not, that would be a violation of the principal conditions of the NYU scholarship award, not to mention a ridicule to all other applicants still waiting for NYU's decision.

@FLT

where's the problem? He's accepted NYU and left a place open for you at Stanford (i presume you have applied there)....

I did not apply to Stanford. And you know, if I did, I would have withdrawn it when I accepted NYU's offer because the Intention to Enroll form (which you are required to sign in order to accept the award from NYU) specifically states, and I quote:

"I attest that I have also withdrawn all pending applications at other institutions as a condition of accepting the award and enrolling at the [NYU] Law School".

So Up, if you do not find any problem, then I do not know what fair play is.

FYI, I did withdraw my application to Harvard and Yale when I accepted the NYU scholarship award.

I am not being preachy and do not expect everyone to follow the rules to the letter. It's your life and we need to let you live it, but at least have some decency not to publicize things which may be unfair to others (i.e., to NYU and to the other brilliant applicants still waiting for NYU's decision on the scholarship).

End of story.

So I guess the mistake mltmhl has made so far is to be "indecent enough to publicize things which may be unfair to others (i.e., to NYU and to the other brilliant applicants still waiting for NYU's decision on the scholarship). "

To my mind, it would be unfair only if he withdrew his acceptance of NYU after receiving Stanford's offer.

One can't punish a person for wanting to know the result of every application he's made......you may call it vanity or whatever else you want to.

Well...let's see if one can or cannot punish the person if the person has breached a material clause of a contract....of course....'one' means NYU. The contract specifically asks the grantee to withdraw....not to 'not to' accept other offers. It doesn't take a nobel-prize winner to understand such a simple requirement...but of course it takes some ethics.
