Guys, do you know if there is a deadline for accepting a conditional offer?

You don't need to pay a deposit or anything so why don't you just accept it anyway?

Mark W,

Because I don't know if I can withdraw the acceptance later on, in case I'm offered a place somewhere I would choose over UCL. Can I?

Of course you can. Are you worried that UCL will sue you for the course fees if you accept first and then later change your mind? I'm sure that will never happen...

Dozens of people must do this every year given that the BCL and Cambridge don't give offers until February/March.

To answer the earlier question my offer letter says I have four weeks to accept but that I can apply for an extension if desired. Presumably that is standard.

haha thanks for your answer!
I was actually worried that I would be taking someone else's place or something, so I wanted to be sure before accepting, but I'm sure a lot of people will do that, indeed.

I suspect they solve that issue in one of two ways:

1) Make more offers than they intend will enrol on the course, knowing that in practice people change their minds for one reason or another. Similar to the way airlines oversell seats on flights.

2) Hold those candidates who were just on the cusp of getting in on some kind of reserve list and then offer them a place as one becomes available.

I'm sure you won't be taking someone else's place by accepting.

Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of application, still reviewing my personal statement.
Should I tell them that I'm applying to LSE too? Does it somehow affect their decision?

Don't think I'd mention it. I rather doubt it would have any negative impact, but I'd be even more surprised if it had any positive impact.

I didn't mention any other apps on my UCL or KCL apps. I did mention them on one of my Cam and Ox apps (can't remember which), because one of the sections of the form expressly asked whether you had applied to other programs. I didn't want to lie so I listed my other apps. Apart from that I wouldn't have!

So better that I'd keep silent on that point!

Hi guys,

Got an unconditional offer on Thursday, so happy. I believe that, from looking around these discussion boards and my own personal experience, that when Portico states 'currently being processed by admissions' this is the process before receiving an offer, unconditional or otherwise. I have not seen or heard of anyone not receiving an offer after this statement on Portico, it must be the process of final checks rather than decision making.

Not me. Perhaps I'm wrong but I assumed that it made no difference which (if any) specialism you applied for. After all, it's not as though you are committed to that decision until you select your courses in the first couple of weeks of term. You just need to write something in your personal statement that shows that you have thought a bit about what you intend to do.

I applied (and was accepted) for the International Commercial Law specialism, but I don't believe there is anything preventing me from turning up to UCL and choosing to take Human Rights or Environmental Law or whatever rubbish I feel like. The offer letter just says that I have a place on the LLM, not a place on any particular specialism thereof.

Hi everyone. I'm finalising my application now and I realised that they require your academic transcript to be certified by a university representative. I have the original official transcript, which I've scanned, but it hasn't been certified. Do I need to upload a certified transcript? What has everyone else done? Thanks!

Thanks! Sorry, looking at my transcript again, I think it has already been certified by the university. It's got all the details required by UCL (it's on university letterhead, date of the course, award, marks of all courses, final grade etc.) and the Registrar's name is on the bottom and his position stated.

I am still in the first step :( BUT from what I know, when you status changes to 'currently being processed by admissions' it means that they just need to approve your offer :) If I may ask, what was your degree average? or second year average if you are still in third year? and when did you complete your application?
