Hey guys, congratulations to all those with offers! I am going to be a liar if I don't admit that I am a bit envy of you right now! Has anyone who applied to UCL in early-mid december received any response yet? My application was complete on the 9th of December but my status remains 'application complete'. It's been exactly 6 weeks since then (excluding the christmas holidays). Anyone in the same (or different) boat? Good luck to all those awaiting a response.

Hi guys, I applied on the mid of November around 20th. I have just obtained the conditional offer on 21st of January. It is totally 2 months from the date I submitted to the announcement of result. I hope you will get the good news soon. Just waiting a bit.

I have been waiting for almost 12 weeks since I submitted my application. So I just emailed the admissions about when I could receive a decision, and they replied" I have checked the application system and can confirm that your application is currently with the admissions tutor for consideration." Can I get a decision soon ? I hope the result would be a good news.

Same here for the admissions tutor response to my mail. Except for 8 weeks instead of 12.
And I have no idea if this is supposed to be worrysome.

I think they will give you the same answer. "Your file is now with the admissions tutor, we will notify you upon any further decision".

Hey NNNNN my application also became complete on the 9th and the status has changed to 'currently being processed by admissions' on the ucl portico. Did you get an email with the offer or did you find out only by portico? I've been refreshing the portico site since this morning, so my life feels a bit meaningless at the moment :p
P.S. Congrats for the offer - that's brilliant!

When I submitted my application (december the 8th - it was a sunday) I was sent an automated email saying "This email is sent out when you have completed your application form but before payment has been made" etc. The next day (the 9th of Dec.) I was given access to portico. About a week later my references were submitted as well. Hope this helps.

Guys, kindly help me out please :)

I have submitted and paid for my application on November 22nd.
The confirmation e-mail for my application and payment was sent on November 26th.
The informative e-mail stating that both of my referees have uploaded their letters was sent on December 5th.
I still did not receive any kind of update on my portico.
I contacted them via e-mail, they said that a decision has not been made yet and that they will inform me asap.

I don't know what to make of this. I think it's a really bad sign.

Anyone?

Dear AGH,

I don't know about other people, but there are a number of reasons why I might have gotten a response sooner than you even though I applied later:

1) I have already graduated from law school, so a response would either be an unconditional offer or a rejection. An unconditional offer is easier (and quicker) to make than a conditional offer (where the admissions committee would have to consider carefully the conditions for the offer based on your average, your university etc.)
2) I have graduated from a UK university. UCL is very familiar with the grading systems of UK universities (first, 2:1, 2:2 etc). However, if you are attending an overseas uni, they have to interpret and convert your grades to a british equivalent. Again, this takes time.
3) Pure chance! I can imagine that admissions tutors have a huge pile of applications on their desk; mine just happened to be further up the pile. Yours is there, but might be further below so they haven't have the chance to look at it yet!

Long story short, I wouldn't worry about it. Just wait for the decision. Good luck to you!

Guys,

1) I agree with everything Anna said as conditional offers need greater consideration as they have to, for example, decide whether a student who achieved 60% in his second year is capable of achieving a 65 for his overall degree.

2) Those of you who submitted your application in december, don't forget that that applications were not processed for 2-3 weeks or even more due to the christmas holidays!!!

so don't worry :D

I do think that there will be some applicants in the "Very good, but not outstanding" category who might be held for a little longer due to the rolling application system. After all, if too many offers are made too early in the cycle that leaves less room for outstanding candidates who might apply later. So it makes sense to hold those borderline candidates until the picture becomes a little clearer...

Obviously, I'm speaking generally here, not talking about any specific candidate (since I know nothing about any of you!)

Having said that, there is clearly a large amount of randomness involved. After all, I got an offer in 10 days back in November and I'm a complete idiot!

Thank you Anna2014, law01 and MarkW for your altogether perfectly complete response.
I completely agree with everything the three of you said. As a matter of fact, I have already graduated from an overseas uni, and although I am not outstanding I have a pretty darn good curriculum.

Anyway,

Looks like this year's promotion is going to be extremely friendly and challenging.

I sincerely hope to get in.
