The 2012 Cambridge Thread

EllenS

Hi everyone,

I have a question; the academic condition attached to my Cambridge offer only state that I need a "first". Today I received my results, and my uni has classified my overall grade as a first. Is there any way that Cambridge can disagree, i.e. that they can set their own conditions for what they consider to be a first, bearing in mind what the offer stated? I have e-mailed Ms Wade but she's away for a couple of days, and this is making me a little worried..

Thanks :)

Hello everyone,

I just had a language condition waiver from the language center, has anyone else have had the same? Was the waiver accepted by the board and the faculty? Do you know what are the chances of a rejection of this proposal by the faculty? I really would like to know if any has had the same situation so I don't worry anymore about taking another TOEFL/ IELTS exam.

Thank you!

Hi everyone, finally I have also received my conditions and one among which is language assessment. Does anyone have any idea abt how does it go? Or what is the procedure like, apart frm writing the email as they require? I haven't taken IELTS till date as I have graduated from english language university and all my courses for 5 years were in english and really don't want to take bcoz of my hectic work life. Any possibility of getting a waiver?

You may write to them for a waiver but even to get that you will be required to take a language assessment test of the University. The test is divided into four parts consisting of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Though this sounds similar to the IELTS but the format of the questions is not the same. Plus, they will hold a telephonic interview to check your spoken English. Only after that will you be considered for a waiver of IELTS/TOEFL.

That is how it went for me. I gave the assessment test and got a waiver, though a day before I got the waiver I also gave IELTS. In any case, I think you should also check the visa requirements as they may require you to give the IELTS, even if you have a waiver from your University.

Thanks for your reply. Have given my online assessment and waiting for the interview. Mind sharing, what kind of questions they ask in interview? And when do they tell you abt the result? Anyway, hoping for the best and good to hear that U have got the waiver.

Hi I gave the Language Assessment some time back, by when do they inform about the outcome? It would be great if you could let me know....kinda tensed abt it....

Well, after sending the assessment they sent me an email programming an interview next week and at the end of the interview they told me the outcome which was the waiver of the condition.

All my uploaded documents disappeared from Camsis! Does this mean they have all they needed?
I still have not received confirmation and there is one condition left, the withdrawal from ongoing studies. But I have uploaded my withdrawal a few days ago.

I have the same problem! All my documents disappeared as well - I have two left (language condition, but the language centre has recommended a waiver to the department and BOGS) and an uploaded copy of my passport. I uploaded my passport ages ago actually, but that has now disappeared as well. I just re-uploaded it again and emailed Ms Wade to ask if there was a problem with it because my condition for that hadn't disappeared yet..

My documents disappear together with the relevant conditions
So I suppose they are removed only because the Board is considering your documents... that's what I expect since I still have one outstanding condition

Hey there,

Does the demand for caution money vary from college to college? Also, I was accepted at Wolfson about a month ago. But no demand for caution money has been made yet. To those who have paid the caution money- were you asked to pay upon getting a confirmed admission? That may explain why I havent received any demand for caution money, as I am yet to get the language test results.

Thanks!
