I think they should/would- having said that the job on the admissions committee is quite unenviable :(- imagine having to decide if three international moot victories were more valuable to Cambridge than a publication- that's a comparison that no one can make!

I'm presuming they have set criteria for admission, A to Z, and then based on whatever the student's activities are, they would mark him/her against those criteria, total the scores and inter se rank the students- otherwise it would be quite impossible.

Congratulations Dubie!
Seems like it is starting now:) Could you please tell us if your camsis account has changed already and if not could you do so when it changes? My e-mail program kind of broke down yesterday so I will have no reliable inbox the next days. Therefore I am currently checking camsis regularly and I would like to know if it is really updated!

Any invites from Gates for the non-US students yet? Congratulations Dubie! which country are you from?
Posted Feb 13, 2012 16:54
Congratulations!
..Australia? :)
..Australia? :)

Thanks everyone.
My Camsis still says "under consideration by the degree committee" - I'll let you know if/when it changes. The email indicated further information would follow by the end of the week, so maybe it will change then.
I didn't apply for the Gates, so have obviously not received an invite.
And yes, I am Australian - have I said so somewhere, or are you just really good at guessing? :)

Congrats. Dubie.Wonder if they are starting in alphabetical order country wise?

Hello Dubie, could you tell us something about your academic or professional background and whether you submitted your application in the early months or later? Btw - it would be nice to get a Valentine's card from the Faculty today, wouldn't it?:)

Camsis unavailable, yay :)

I like your alphabetical theory - is anyone in Austria? - because you could be next! :)
I'll give you a fair amount of info re my background, because my averageness next to the orphanage-building, international moot-winning impressive people might be reassuring to those of you still waiting.
I have literally zero professional experience. I have no intention of being a lawyer (academia beckons) and so have not even set foot in a law firm. I do have some experience working as a tutor in my law school (for first year units). I was also on the law review.
I finished my degree December last year - I have two degrees BA and LLB, both with first class honours, from a good Australian uni. (The uni isn't the best-ranked (not that rankings mean much) in Australia, but the competition in the law school is fairly intense and it's produced a fairly impressive number of Rhodes Scholars).
My law school doesn't do rankings, but only awards firsts to the top 6-9%, but I don't know where I sit amongst that. Definitely not the top student.
My referees know me quite well (academically), but wouldn't be 'big names' to those in Cambridge.
So if you're reading this thinking, 'that's not very impressive, my CV is better than hers', you're probably right. Which is why I've told you all this (sorry about the lengthy post) - I know some of the people who got in earlier had very intimidating profiles (at least I thought so) - mine's not. If I can get in, your chances must be pretty bloody good too.
Very best of luck

Sorry, you also asked when my application was submitted - my last referee sent his reference in on 2nd December

Thank you for sharing the information, Dubie. I think your CV is impressive...

Hi there. I submitted my application on 16 December 2011. The application still is under consideration. Did anybody of you - besides Dubie (Congratulation for the offer!) - receive an offer in the meanwhile? How long does it usually take for the university to decide on the application?
Posted Feb 14, 2012 11:49
Dear All,
My application status on Camsis still reads 'awaiting consideration'. Is there anyone else sailing in the same boat? Or is it just me? I am a lil worried now.
Pl let me know.
Thanks
M

I'm still waiting for the decision as well. However, it seems - according to Dubie's post - that the time for the decisions has come.
