How many Indians have received their offer letters from Oxford? I received a confirmation by email but I am waiting for the letter. Wondering whether the letters have started arriving.

I received my letter today. I guess it depends on which part of the country you are in and of course, the efficiency of the indian postal system!!

For what it is worth, I'm in Canada and did not receive it until this week.

I am proud of all of you.
In a survey done recently, it was found out that Indians have the highest IQ in the world.
21st century belongs to India.

I totally agree with you Reeta. You all speak English and you're all super super clever!
There's loads of staggeringly intelligent Indians on the BVC at Lincoln's Inn, and I think they're all going to go back to India and do really well. Good luck to them.

hi...as someone who wants to apply for an oxford bcl in the future, I'd just like to ask if there's anything specific that they look for when choosing applicants? any particular sort of internship cv or work experience? or do they lay more emphasis on one's academic record?
thanks...
thanks...

Reeta - yes, we're brainy...but all these goras think we're geeky!
Studenbarista - I'm afriad you're mistaken, there are very very few Inidans (NRI or from India) either on BVC or at Lincoln's...I can count them on my hands...they're all Pakistani and Bangladeshi....not a mistake you want to make
sv - I got into BCL. The application is short and simple. All you need (as in MUST have) is very good results on an LLB from a good Uni- i.e. a First minimum, preferably with firsts throughout your undergrad. A good reference is helpful, but otherwise they really don't care, it's not like in USA where they'e got 10 000 different criteria to assess you on.

The post by the userid 'Sachin' looks more like a post of a jealous Pakistani (pretending to be Indian) then an Indian.
Posted Apr 07, 2006 14:07
Craig...I'm shocked. Sachin is quite clearly not a muslim name. If I'm jealous of anything its all my fellow Indians going to NYU...there will be so many of therm there, unlike Lincoln's in where there are like 5 of us!
Craig doesn't sound very Indian to me...or is that one of those call center pseudonyms Kartike?

Craig, don't you know Sachin Tendulkar, the famous Indian cricketer?

If you name is 'Sachin' then my name is Muhammad...what prevents any Abdul, Rahim, Qadir(tom, dick or harry) registering under the userid 'Sachin'.
The way you first tried to defame Indians by calling them 'geeky' and then your statement about BVC full of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis was a dead give away about your real identity. Nice try mate...
If you are an Indian then I am the President of Pakistan.

I dont understand this!
I was saying people find us (Indians form India) geeky becuase they do...or at least thats what we think!
And as for the BVC, I was correcting someone who said it was full of Indians. I'm on the course, and I know for a fact that there are very few Indians (I know them all) and was pointing out that we shoudln't be confused with Pakistanis or Bangladeshis. If Craig is even on the BVC, his recent posts show that he probably wouldn't know the difference either!

Dear all,
I am not from India nor any its adjacent country, but I hope this dispute will end soon. After all it does not relate to application thing or studying in the UK.
However, I have a question. What is "BVC" or "Lincoln's Inn"? Is there anyone kind enough to answer my small questions?
Best regards,
catcat

Anyone wishing to practice Law in UK has to undertake a one year(Full-time) and two years(part-time) professional degree. People who wish to become solicitors do LPC(Legal Practice course) and those who wish to become Barristers do BVC(Barrister Vocational course).
In order to join LPC or BVC, a person should ideally have some sort of legal educational background e.g. should have done LL.B
Those from a non-law background have to do GDL/CPE in order to qualify for LPC or BVC.
Lincoln's Inn is one of the four Inns in London. Barristers have to join any one of the four Inns....
I hope this helps.

Guys please,
It is not nice to get into 'I am better than u'..doesnt help anyone. I am an Indian too. Proud of being one. But we are first human beings before we are some 'nationals' and there are good people everywhere.
Lets use this site to exchange info and exchange goodwill towards each other.
My specific question is for anyone who can help: What are chances of finding a job after doing LLM? Be frank. No need for rosy picture. A good response might save me tons of money, money that I can not afford...
Craig, thanks for informative post abt UK system

Hi IntLaw,
I raised this question earlier.Pl see
http://www.llm-guide.com/board/10981
You will find that the responses are not very encouraging, but then I also asked some individuals who are regulars on the board from India and they seem to also be of the same opinion -- having said that I may add that most are of the opinion that a reasonable amount of investment in LLM education can be reocvered. This is what I was given to understand .I hope it is useful to you in your decision making.
One caveat neverthless each is speaking his perceptions and this could be different in your case.
Cheers and wishing you all the best in your endeavours.

thanks, sachin.
By first miminum, does that also include undergraduate scores, even if they are in a different subject? my law degree will be a postgraduate one.
