If you need to know earlier, for whatever urgent reason, then you can email the Law faculty and they will email you the outcome of your application (as they did with me, and I got a place!). Thank you for your enquiry regarding graduate study at the University of Oxford.

Unfortunately, the Graduate Admissions Office is unable to disclose application decisions. The department to which you have applied will notify you directly in writing as to the outcome of your application. Decision letters are normally sent out shortly after the internal decision date for the relevant application deadline:

Application Deadline 1 (20 November 2009) - 15 January 2010
Application Deadline 2 (08 or 22 January 2010) - 19 March 2010
Application Deadline 3 (12 March 2010) - 14 May 2010.

I emailed the Law Faculty secretary - in the confirmation email I received when I sent off my application, it said: "If you require information urgently, we recommend contacting the relevant department directly...". I had a genuine work-related reason for needing to know earlier, so I don't recommend emailing unless you have a real reason for knowing the status of your application. From what I hear, everyone bombarded the Law Faculty with emails last year simply because they couldn't wait any longer...which really wasn't fair because there were people with a genuine need to know earlier who couldn't get a reply from the Law Faculty...

Anyways, best of luck everyone and I look forward to seeing you in October!

Has anyone else heard yet? I know they say the 19th but my tutor told me they had already decided and were just sending the letters out- and this was on friday! the wait is killing me!

I had a phone call from them yesterday, unfortunately its a rejection for me. makes it easier to decide i guess, Cambridge here I come!!

a phone call? That's unusual! Bad luck though, but yes- at least if you were unsure where to go the decision is a little easier. No such luck for me- Cambridge doesn't offer the courses I am hoping to do.

Did you e-mail them to initiate a phone call in return...I think letters should arrive thurs-saturday!!

I phoned them last Friday and explained the reason why i urgently needed to know. They took my details and explained someone would get back to me on Monday. Recieved a phonecall around 5.30 yesterday and was given their decision and the reasons.

It was not a withheld number, and they did question alot as to why I needed to know.

I know its difficult but just try and relax, as it doesnt help you. I was on edge all weekend and i did stuff to take my mind off it.

Don'd mind sharing -

the reason was essentially that they had stronger applicants. They started off with the usual it was a very credible application, very good statement and you met all the requirements, even threw in the fact one of the notes made against the application said that the 2000 word essay was exceptionally well written...however the 1st that you recieved from your university was not high enough in comparison to other stronger applicants.

it was a very polite kick in the teeth!

Sorry to hear that london_student - but you'll have a fantastic time in Cambridge (and it's a much prettier city than Oxford, in my opinion). I'm surprised they told you over the phone, I've never heard of them doing that before. Best of luck at Cambridge and for the future!

Oh god help me then since I am predicted a first and not actually achieved it yet, though my second year marks should be an indication I will achieve such.

Thanks big_suze. yup I was surpised when they said they'd phone me back, i just thought they would email me. was very suprised when it was an actual phonecall.
Quite nice of them to do so i think.
