Devika,
The LLM at Oxford is called the BCL or MJur (depending on whether you are coming from a commonl law background or not). Yes the college you choose (and the one that finally accepts you) matters a heck of a lot - funding, accommodation, location, rate of acceptability, access to the internet from your room, access to library anf other facilities, etc. Besides, some colleges are more reputable thatn others, some have better recreation/study/religious etc facilities than others, there are mouth-watering funding opportunites in some, while others are virtually dry funding-wise. I would advise anybody looking the way of Oxford to first do a thorough immersion in each of the colleges websites, and maybe consult people doing the BCL/Mjur at the moment.
Best of luck in your application.

I've received an e-mail too!!!
Just a question: do we have to wait for the formal letter to accept the offer? They say we can use our self service account but mine has not been updated yet...
Do we just have to wait then, or some of you have contacted S. Wade?
Thanx a lot for your replies!

I would wait till the formal letter arrives. As for my self-service account, it hasn't been updated either. I believe the decision of the committee has to go back to the BGS, which is responsible for both the formal letters and the online area. This will probably take some more time. So why bother Mrs. Wade, who even was friendly enough to inform us immediately?
One exception might be if you haven't passed your final exams yet and are unsure about academic conditions. In this case, one might think about contacting her.
In all other cases, the conditions should be crystal clear: financial c, college c. and finally the language test for all Non-English applicants.
So why does everybody panic so much? We've been told about our admission! Just relax and celebrate!

I am a student in final year and naturally nervous about the academic conditions for my finals. Anyone have any idea of what the standard condition is and how strictly it is enforced?

Anybody planning to start their LLM at Cambridge in October 2010 should join this group!
www.lawyrs.net/groups/234/cambridge-class-of-2011
I think you have to be logged into lawyrs.net for that link to work. If it doesn't for some reason just search lawyrs.net for a group called "Cambridge Class of 2011".

"The minimum entry requirement for the LL.M. is normally a First class degree in law from a UK university, or the equivalent from an overseas institution. For overseas students this typically means they will have placed in the top 5-10% of their class."
http://www.law.cam.ac.uk/courses/llm-academic-and-language-requirements.php
"For applicants who are completing their legal studies during the year when they apply for the LL.M., the LL.M. applications committee will often make the offer conditional upon the applicant performing to a stipulated level as they complete their studies. The setting of conditions will be governed by the fact applicants are normally expected to achieve a First class degree in the case of a UK university or its equivalent from overseas."
http://www.law.cam.ac.uk/courses/llm-offer-conditions.php
I guess Ireland has the same grading system as the UK, so top 5 percent of your class may not be enough if you don't get a First. You could contact some students from Ireland from last or this year's class if you really want to find out:

I am from Brazil and I would like to ask your help.
I am applying to Oxdord MSc in Law and Finance, but I am not pretty much confident in my possibilites of getting an offer, because I was told (not by Oxford officials, let it may be clear) I´d conccur with Harvard students and likewise, and there´s only one spot for South Americans per year.
So, please, you, who have more experience on it, give me a hand here, about my chances of being accepted in Oxford´s Master in Law and Finance Programe.
I have already completed a Master´s degree on Constitutional Law, in 2008, here, in Brazil. My Dissertations was 275 pages long.
Since 2007, I am a Professor of Civil Law (Real Law, Compacts) in a Law School, getting another position in other Law School on February of 2009.
My G.P.A. in Law School was 9.4, in a zero to ten scale, and 9,3 in the Master´s course, in a zero to ten scale (due to a discordance with the ideas of my Tax Law Professor in the Masters, I took only 6 in that subject)
I developed activities of monitoring for two years while in Law School (Tax Law I and Economic Constitutional Law), and participated of several avaliations of monographies from concluding students.
I also taught three subjects in the Superior School of the Magistrates of my State (Political Position of the Judiciary, Economic Law and States Organization), orientating many students in their obligatory essays in specializations courses (Judiciary Administration and Constitutional Law) in that same School.
I have got a declaration, from the student union, that I was evaluated by my students from on of those Law Schools and that I got an average grade of 9.4 in Real Law and 9,5 in Compacts (there were ten aspects to evaluated). Shall I use that evaluation or it would not be good, as I did not get ten in both?

Pls disregard the slot rumor and go ahead with your application. I do not work at Oxford but i know it is not true. As for your credentials, they are excellent. I think your chances are great.

Thank you my friend. I guess I am being very anxious about it, so I giving too much attention to these rumors.
But I still want to know if I should use that Declaration from the Students Union or not.
Do you see if there is any reason for me to be worried about my grades in Tax Law in my Master´s Course?
Are you applying to it, too?
Thank you a lot! Your answer dropped part of my anxiety!

The MSc in Law and Finance is a new programme - actually being commenced from 2011 (the application of which you now make). And, being run by the law faculty in conjunction with the Said Business School. My conjecture is that largely the same that apply to BCL/MJur would also apply to the MSc.

I have a book from him that is amazing...
¨ He died on 7 September 1979 at Oxford. It was said that nobody in Oxford had more friends and fewer enemies. Portraits of him are held by Exeter College and Rhodes House, Oxford, the University of Liverpool, and his family. His likeness is also preserved as a gargoyle on the Bodleian Library, between an emu and a kangaroo. ¨
