Oxford BCL and Cambridge LLM Applicants 2009

Cedric

It has been affirmatively confirmed that no decisions have been made at Cambridge after the first round of around 25 offers and the usual binning (around 50%)...Cambridge is expected to finalise the list of offers (and the unofficial wait list) by the end of March. So the February round news seems to have been a sham one (even though even I had believed that a few decisions were being made).

It is also confirmed that no decisions have been made as yet at Oxford and that all (yes all-offers, rejections, wait lists) would have been arrived at by the 15th March and subsequently announced in the following month.

So, I'm taking my mind off BCL/LLM for another fortnight at least...

I would say more than 25 offers. The FB group has 18 members and there are many people still missing who announced their offer but didn't join the group. Plus a bunch of people not on any of the many LLM groups/boards..

I would say the figure is around 50 and over..

It really is the blind leading the blind here, isn't it?

If you're sitting out there waiting for news on admission, don't let amateur arithmetic on these message boards disspirit you.

Hi guys

Do you know if one can accept an offer in another university, say Queen Mary, and then cancel such acceptance once the Oxbridge offer arrives, if it does?

From the posts, it seems we won't be hearing from them before end of March, and I have 15 March as deadline in Queen Mary.

No one is in this awkward position too - waiting against the clock and possibly having to make a blind decision based on how strong one feels his application to be?

I think there was a guy asking about the same but in relation to KCL.You might want to check if there are any cancellation fees.

In response to accepting offers and then cancelling: I have a friend who did the BCL last year. He was also offered a place at Cambridge. Both his offers were conditional on receiving a first but he was informed that nearly everyone who is lucky enough to receive an offer from Oxford and an offer from Cambridge accepts both. This is because Cambridge are more likely to still accept you if you just miss out on the first (i.e. you get 68% total). So my advice re Queen Mary is to accept it anyway. In fact, the friend I'm talking about forgot to cancel his Cambridge acceptance and received a phone call in October asking where he was! Ha!

Thank you for the advise Big Suze. I think I'll do that and just play with the dates: accept Queen Mary at the last minute, not pay the deposit till the last minute and expect this will buy me time to hear from Oxbridge.

Hello Everyone,

It has been a while I don't post. In the meanwhile I was accepted for the LLM at LSE, Cambridge and for the Oxford Msc. in Criminology.

I have seen a lot of enthusiasm for Oxford and not so much for cambridge. What I would like to know is:

Which is the best Uni to attend (supposing I also get an offer from Ox's M.Jur)?

Btw I was also accepted at Chicago, rejected by Columbia, and I am still waiting for YLS (don't think I have a chance) and Harvard.

Looking at last year's posts in this forum, the offers came as early as mid-march.
