Jagshmen,

No, we used to be allowed to practice after four years (before the bologna system), but now we have to finish all five years (master's degree). but that's not what I was saying anyway...I was wondering why the belgian students have to obtain the master's degree in order to apply for another master's degree abroad....both in law..

Maybe I got something wrong.....those differences can really be confusing....

The bachelor's degree in law is worthless in Belgium. The maximum one can do with it is assisting a lawyer or a notary. All pathways to a professional career go via the master's degree. One needs it to start a career at the bar, to pursue studies for a notary position, to become a bailliff, to pursue a judicial career....
I'm really surprised the Croation bachelor degree opens so many doors. Looking at the many reactions from other people here, I can only conclude that your system is quite exceptional.

No problem, you're welcome.
It's always difficult to understand another country's academic system ! At least we both learned something now :)

A quick question that is probably typical for this period of waiting, stress,...

For the Magister Juris at Oxford (because we are getting near to the deadline): I submitted the application form electronically and my three referee forms are 'received'.

Do I need anything more? Is there like an e-mail with an acknowledgement of receipt or something else? I'm scared I'm missing something so close to the deadline...

If anyone could put my mind at ease, that would be great !

Sorry for asking this dumb question..

It'll be OK, I haven't received an e-mail either that my application was complete.

What is your history exactly on academic aspects? I'm Belgian too! Currently last year at KUL (erasmus at Paris 1).

I haven't recieved any e-mail.

My references had reached much before I submitted my online application. I e-mailed them to ask whether they had recieved the references and recieved an answer in affirmative (by e-mail).

Then 2 weeks later I recieved a letter (by normal mail) stating that my references were missing and I sould hurry. That was during the new year holidays and I had to wait for around a week before I could contact them.

On 5th I wrote an e-mail stating the contents of the 1st e-mail and the letter. They got back saying the letter was sent in due course (which they send to all) and that my references were there and that I can relax (but they said I can relax only after 23rd Jan!!!)..

So if you have any doubts, why not mail the Graduate Admissions Office?

I think it would probably be better to call them if it's urgent. It will definitely take days for them to respond to emails especially during this period of time.
