Oxford 2021-2022 BCL/MSCs/MJUR/MPHIL/MLF Applicants

Hi everyone, has anyone been rejected or waitlisted for the BCL this weekend? I was really expecting a rejection e-mail last night but nothing. Thanks!

Me too. My button has still not disappeared. Really wondering what the reason behind that is if its disappearance actually means that a decision has been made (whether that's acceptance or rejection). I guess we can only wait and see :/

Yeah, I guess just wait and see! Really hoping we don't need to wait long... I had given up on an offer but now that I've read this thread I'm so confused and would really just like to know one way or the other! haha

Hi all - I am still waiting for some news for the BCL, and my button is there! I will be honest and say I am expecting a rejection due to the batch of offers for the BCL already released, and they are just slow to release rejections. But I hope I am wrong! Good luck to everyone :)

Thanks for the update! I feel the same but it's not the end of the world if we get rejected - even being considered is a huge achievement I think :) Best of luck to you too!

I kind of feel the same way, but on the one hand the button thing remains a mystery if it still has not changed for some of us. On the other hand, we don't have a way to know how many offers were actually released on Thursday and Friday (of course not everyone is active on here or TSR, so who knows...). That seems to be the pattern for previous years, but who knows. We can only hope a miracle happens and they have some extra offers/waitlists coming out tomorrow :')

Question to all BCL applicants who are currently still in limbo but have your buttons up. Did any of you in your application mentioned your desire to practice at the Bar or is currently doing the Bar and is keen to practice in a certain area of law?

I mentioned that I am keen for the Bar and my desired specialism :)

Oh! I ask this because I've seen some discussion in TSR and about 3 people there are in the same position (they mentioned they were doing the Bar and their desired specialism) but in all their cases their buttons are still there but heard nothing yet. Just speculating whether that has any relevance but neevrtheless all we can do is wait :)

I also mentioned that I am keen for the bar, and discussed my desired specialisation :) I am in limbo - no rejection email, button still there etc.

Our belief is that we're hopefully on the scholarship track.

Best of luck - hopefully you'll hear tomorrow!

Just wondering ... how do you know that late offers are more likely to be scholarships? Has this been the case in previous years?

Also to anyone else who has received their offer letter - did anyone hear anything about scholarships?
I've only received the email telling me I have an offer, so was hoping a scholarship was still a possibility but perhaps it's not!

Hey guys.

I've heard that the BCL is quite highly regarded for the Bar. However, I fail to find the reasons behind this. Does anyone know why the BCL would be more useful for the Bar as compared to other postgraduate courses, such as the Cambridge LLM?

Heard from a BCL graduate. Apparently it has been the case in past years.

Just reputation. Doubt the course is in any way more suited. You are basically expected to have one for the top commercial sets.

You guys reckon more offers would be sent out to those with their buttons still up if we survive the night? Oxford is driving us crazy! By common practice, rejection should have rolled out last night..

Nope - as per the email sent to an applicant (on a previous page of this thread), all offers were released by Friday afternoon. Further, if they ran out of time or whatever, they seemed to have notified successful applicants that they would receive an offer (as opposed to actually sending the offer).

As for the button theory, its quite clear that in the context of BCL, no button = offer, button = no offer. This is what all of the evidence actually indicates. This is of course discounting random anecdotes from different courses, anecdotes which don't seem credible, second-hand hearsay etc. Personally, I have absolutely no idea how people reached the conclusion that no button = decision made. If you track through the thread, one person seems to have said it and then others just latched on (despite insufficient evidence).

But as with anything, I could be wrong lol. And also, as someone who has been rejected, its damn-well time to get on with my day and stop waiting around! The future awaits!

Sorry JamesHoward - I know its not what you want to hear.

Just regarding the button theory origin story ...

At the very bottom of this page - https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate/after-you-apply/self-service

It states that  ‘Once a decision has been made on your application, no further documents can be uploaded.’

So I think that’s where the whole thing started, who knows for sure whether it is a true indication of anything but there doesn’t seem to have been any(many?) people waitlisted for the BCL/MJur so I think that’s very much still an option.

Hope everyone hears very soon!
