Hi to all ...
I am admitted to LSE but I have a few querries regarding accomodation:-
1- Can I mention some extra days of my course tenure ... Like 3 days before the date of registration and 3 days after the end of session (including vacation period as i will not leave london before the end of session) as my tenure of accomodation? Will that affect my chances of getting desired accomodation...
2-Please tell me what all intercollegiate residences are good...As such I dont intend to live in any intercollegiate halls but application form asks for atleast three preferrd places.. so please help me with this...
3- I have choosen three LSE halls as my main preference.. Northumberland , High Holborn,Rosebery... Please tell me are these places good enough???
Your advices matter me.
Thanks a ton in advance

Ju,
Northumberland, High Holborn, Grosvenor, Carr-Saunders and Bankside are the closest to the LSE. Rosebery and Passfield are slightly farther but still within Central London.
You need to mention in your application for accommodation the inclusive dates when you intend to be in London, both during term time and vacation, so they can be properly informed that you are availing of LSE accommodations during the break. This is important, especially during vacation (between the Lent and Summer terms), when you will be revising for the final examinations.
This is what I posted a few weeks back regarding accommodations in London which you might find useful: "Flat living is ideal for a London P/G. LSE has a number of self-contained flats available for students (LSE flats are limited, so it's best to apply as soon as you accept your offer of admission). Having said this, it would be advantageous to stay within the proximity of Houghton Street and Aldwych, so that you can have access to the library even during late hours without having to rush and take the tube before the station closes. If you can afford it, you can share a flat with your friends or prospective classmates in central or southwest London. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is a pleasant, albeit costly, place to live while in London."

I stayed at Bankside one year, and then moved out to a private flat near Kentish town. Concerning dorms, Bankside is a very practical dorm to stay at but nothing like having a flat to one's self. The closer you are to the school the higher the rent you will have to pay, and the more stuffier the flats are going to get. Obviously, you would not desire to be too far from school either; and would probably prefer to live in a plesant ditrict. Kentish town brought all these conditions together in a lovely flat which even had a small garden in the back! Travelled to school within 15 minutes, and was close to many lively districts!
If you are adamant about living in a posh district, apart from Kensington and Chelsea mentioned above, Mayfair (my first place of work) might also be another place to consider...

Just so we are all on the same page, what do you consider expensive rent? Inexpensive rent? Are utilities (electricity, water, garbage) usually included in the rent? How much do utilities typically cost in London? Does anyone have an suggestions for private leasing agencies or boards (craigslist, etc.)?
Also, for those of you that stayed at LSE halls, was noise ever an issue?

I've been at LSE for three years - lived in Northumberland House in my first year which I highly recommend. It's a 6 minute walk to the LSE campus, and it's located right by trafalgar square, so it's probably the most central place you could ask to live. It's also the newest halls, so it's in good condition. I know for a fact you can request to move in to Northumberland early and you can stay longer than when term ends, and you'll have your room even during vacations. They're really flexible at Northumberland, and it won't affect your application.
High Holborn is also really central and near campus, so that's a good one to choose.
Roseberry is a little further than the other two, you might also want to consider Bankside, which lots of my friends lived at and loved.
Hope this helps.
