KCL vs York University

Hi,

i just got accepted to two great law schools for an LLM in International Business Law: KCL in London and York University in Toronto. I was wondering if someone could give me an idea on which one to pick? Are they both well-know LLM programs? Also, in which one there are more chances to find an internship or a Job afterwards?

Thank you

Definitely go for KCL, it has a much better global reputation and you'll be living in London rather than the Glendon York campus in Toronto.

York isn't even considered prestigious within Canada (except the Schulich School of Business) and it's about 45 minutes out of downtown Toronto; it's terrible in the wintertime. Their LLM is not well known.

I've lived in both London and Toronto, and I know that KCL LLM is considered pretty prestigious. It's also a popular programme for recent law grads looking to specialize. However, with the new stricter visa restrictions in the UK it'll be very hard to find a job here right after graduation.

In Canada people refer to the law school as 'Osgoode Hall' even thought it's technically part of York University. Osgoode's reputation is decent but not amazing. It used to be a top school and people sometimes joke about 'Was-good Hall'. U of T, McGill, UBC are all better but, like I said, it's still one of the better law schools in Canada. The main issue is its HORRIBLE location. The previous poster is spot on about the location. It's in the absolute worst part of Toronto, possibly the most dangerous area in all of Canada. Google 'Jane and Finch' if you need more details. There are few places in Canada that have US style crime but this happens to be one of them.

I am currently at King's College (London) and would recommend it. Good lecturers, interesting modules. Good reputation as well.

I am looking for someone to take over my accomodation contract (King's accomodation next to London Bridge). If someone is interested in moving in this summer (From June 2016) it'd be great ! :)
