I think in Europe and Asia KCL is better,
in the UK, UCL has a slight edge but in the finance LLM both uni's have the same "prestige"
LSE along with Oxbridge are a notch ahead....

LSE along with Oxbridge are a notch ahead...
in my opinion this is a misrepresentation; in the UK, Lse would like to be on par with oxbridge but is simply not; UCL, KCL and LSE are usually considered qually good, subject to your interest.
In the world rankings LSE is no 56, whilst UCL and KCL are top 25

"In the world rankings LSE is no 56, whilst UCL and KCL are top 25"
those rankings are not for law...
but anyway I did not intend to "misrepresent" anything, but you can compare LSE entry requirements to those of KCL/UCL and see the difference.

so where is LSE in the world law ranking then?
well, entry requirements aside, there are other aspects to consider to achieve an informed understanding of which university is the best and there is a reason why LSE ended up 56 and oxbridge top 5 in the general rankings and that is hardly because they are comparable.

LSE is ranked 3rd in the UK as per 2009 rankings.
and forget about general world ranking, it has nothing to do with law. Anyway, I agree that Oxbrigde is ahead of LSE but it's a thin line especially if you're not heading to academia

well, for must students I believe an international reputation is far more important than merely within the borders of the UK as not everyone intend to stay here indefinately and so world rankings should not be excluded, yet considered along side UK rankings and then it is rather obvious that the line between Oxford and LSE is anything but thin.

even insofar as international reputation, LSE is up there with the best ...whether in the US/EUR/ASIA
For law, its a top 10 worldwide along with HLS/YLS/CLS/SLS/Oxbridge

do you have a website to confirm as I have not managed to come across anything which indicates what you stated?

posts here are based on personal opinions and hearsay, hence why this sight exists. In my opinion and in fact, LSE is internationally considered good, yet not in comparision with oxbridge, nor UCL or KCL for that matter. This opinion is based on personal experience and rankings which include aspects of research, student satisfaction, employment etc. As you however were convinced LSE is ranked top 10 in the world which is very far from any information I have come across, perhaps you could support your statement with some fact in lieu of opinions on this website? I am very inclined to find out if the information I, together with knowledagble people around the world is incorrect.

yes I am and as for that ranking, someone has clearly not been done properly if whoever compiled it honestly believes Cambridge is ranked ninth in the country in law and LSE first

check the 3 rankings here
all of them are wrong?

I don't think you quite understood what I meant; I never disputed the fact the LSE is highly ranked in the UK, but please refer to my earlier post when I mention the world rankings, where LSE is 56, in other words not close to oxbridge. anyhow, you seem decided LSE is on par with oxbridge though evidently that is incorrect, however unless you can provide me with a world ranking where LSE in ranked top 10, I don't see any point in continuing this discussion

there you go....
Posted Feb 10, 2009 20:17
didn't you earlier point out the importance of it being a law ranking? london school of economics and political science, obviously will rank well for social science, yet I am still eagerly waiting for a law world ranking claiming LSE to be top 10
Posted Feb 10, 2009 20:48
Well, from these rankings perspectives, social sciences refer to a broad subject survey that includes law. Of course among the various subjects there might be some that weighs the balance, but nothing in my opinion that could substancially affect the accuracy of overall assessment.
And here another ranking considering only UK Law Schools..
http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/single.htm?ipg=6643
Wouldn't it suffice to combine the information from that world ranking in the broad category social sciences and then this one focused on law to figure things out ?
Im not from England nor a student from any of these unis, but I am most inclined to place LSE higher than KCL or UCL.

well I cannot comment on the accuracy of considering the world and UK ranking you provided together and then come up with something in between, i found a general world ranking, placing LSE 56 in the world, whilst UCL and KCL were both top 25.
In my mind UCL, KCL and LSE are equally good, depending on the subjects, for example KCL is prominent in competition law. However, though there may be minor difference between these, I have to reject the comparison of LSE with Oxbridge and in regards to that i don't believe there is much debate to be had.
