KCL LLM 2009 application process

Sophie

I got a conditional offer as well ... one of the conditions is that I have to give the TOEFL or IELTS test as English is not my native language.

Although I explained that English has been the medium of instruction throughout my education they sent me an email saying that it was my responsibility to satisfy the offer conditions.

Is anyone else in the same situation and is it at all possible to get a waiver?

same issue for me! I was asked to furnish a letter from my undergrad uni to state that the medium for my degree was in English.

Megh and sophie, call them; I understand that the waiver is possible.
Clarissa, in about 8 weeks you should receive an email indicating they have received your application and giving you a tracking number. I would not expect an answer earlier than 6 weeks; read other posts as it seems that 6-8weeks has been the standard lately.

Alas.....!!!
Some preliminary good news for me....KCL has sent me the application tracking number....lucky to atleast receive it...!
anyways....i still stuck with stage 1....!
anyone with any idea how long will it now take them to give me an offer...!!
Considering that Nottingham has sent me a conditional offer do you thing it is possible that KCL may take a different stand and send me an unconditional offer or something? Or is it possible that they may even reject my entire application :(

Any views from anybody will be highly appreciated

Dear Legal_India,
It took approximately a week for me to pass from stage one to stage two and another one week to receive an offer (stage 3). For your information, stage two means that your application is under the review of the admissions office. So, in total you need to wait for two weeks. Hope everything goes right for you. Good luck!

Well if its just 2 weeks I am happy...!
but considering that this is peak period for applications in KCL...I mean KCL is flooded with applications in the month of February and March....do you think it will take longer than 2 weeks...!!

And whatt kind of offer should i expect to recieve from them?

Legal_India,

The type of offer depends on many things. For example, I applied online, and they sent me an offer conditioned to me sending them my original documents. As you will see, it was not a very complex condition. Other have received conditional offers indicating a required degree result, passing the IELTS, etc. In sum, it depends on yoour application.

The only thing for sure is that you need to be patient. You will eventually know.

Rejected in KCL,Queen Mary and Edimburgh (very lucky haha), now seriou, I have been accepted in Nottingham Trent University, do you think it is worth to do the LLM at the NTU (do not confuse with the The University of Nottingham, which it s beeter) Awaiting to hear from Mancheser, Nottingham, Amsterdam and Frankfurt. Problem about the NTU is the deadline, so imagine if I do not get any offer till the deadine, I have to to accept NTU, but imagine after accepting NTU I get an offer from a better uniI will shot mytself.Thank very much.

I guess one should give them a call and check whether they have received the acceptance form if Stage 5 is not reached after 3 weeks from accepting their offer. Or is it normal?

The problem is whenever you phone them, they give you the impression that they are REALLY really busy, and that you have interrupted something extremely urgent they have been doing. They are tight on time and have loads of work to do I suppose. But I also know that we, on the other side, can get really worried about our applications, especially when we happen to rely on regular mail and courier!

d9 - my deadline was this week and I sent the deadline the week before, when it hadn't been updated after the deadline I called and they had received it but would most likely be updating the tracker this coming week - but then my status updated the next hour (probabky as a result of the call). So I wouldn't stress too much.

Hy,

I got an email, that my application was incomplete and since a lot of people seemed to have a little trouble with the online application form (you have to upload all the documents and then additionally add them to your application, but you can't add something after you sumited the application, also you already uploaded the documents - this actually was a little bit confusing...) I was allowed to hand in my documents by email. So I hope, that I will receive a decision within the next two weeks.

I reached stage 2....I am so happy...I am just praying that I get an Unconditional offer from the University....I am so excited...!
Its much quicker than i expected (1000 times better than QMUL).....!
How long does it take to go from stage 2 to stage 3 during these peak days....! (They said it may take 4 weeks....but i think it's just a buffer period stated by them..)

Hey Legal_India, I was kind of like in the same situation as you are, first I got an email telling me that my application was incomplete when I had sent it like 2 months ago, so I sent my scanned copies attached to a reply email and last week I was in stage 1. This morning I opened my email inbox and found out that KCL was making me a conditional offer. I know have to send one hard copy of a document that I already have and then I'll be sent a hard copy of the unconditional offer letter. It only took no longer than 2 weeks for me to go from incomplete application to conditional offer. Hope this helps.

Hi there, I have an offer from KCL. However, I dont feel motivated enough. i have spoken to one of the current students at KCL and he doesnt see any point in doing LLM from KCL. I have been rejected by better uni's (LSE / Oxbridge). I have also applied for E-LLM at NYU but havent heard back. Could anybody pls suggest whether or not there is any point in doing LLM from KCL and where does KCL stand from a long-term perspective. Please help.

KCL is an excellent University in UK...One of the top ranked University (though not better than UCL, Edinbrugh, Aberdeen and LSE) but certainly is has a very very good reputation...!
Also if you consider rankings then the average ranking of KCL is 5.6

It is also considered a very good University fo Research Studies and has excellent points in the RAE rankings
Also, the location is the best in the whole of UK because its in London City.

Their Administration system is also great..!
KCL's (ranking for Graduate Prospects=15.6)job prospects are not better than UCL(ranking for Graduate Prospects=4.6), Aberdeen(ranking for Graduate Prospects=2), City University(ranking for Graduate Prospects=6) but its surely better than many other Universities...e.g. QMUL has average ranking 21, Manchester has average ranking 33 for Job prospects!

* Average ranking is made by taking into consideration the median of all three rankings available for UK Universities (Times, Guardian, Complete Universities Guide Ranking systems)

Thanks for replying patomtz! KCL is supposed to call me later this week to answer any questions on courses/ dates/ visas etc. So I'm going to ask them for an Eng language test waiver!

Why are you saying that KCL is not better than Edinburgh, UCL, Abderdeen or LSE??? I don't agree with you on that! In fact, KCL has an excellent reputation everywhere, better than Edinburgh or Aberdeen at least! In regards to UCL and LSE, I think that they are almost at the same level, and that it really depends on what you are intending to study! KCL has a wide range of subjects to choose, which is not the case for LSE or UCL!

On what facts are you relying to make such a statement?
