Hello. I have not yet received the offer letter from the University. But I recently requested them by e-mail to consider my application for scholarship which they promptly replied in the affirmative. Is the delay common or is it due to some extraneous causes. I am really concerned as recently in news it was disclosed that visa rates are going to be reduced to certain numbers due to terrorist threat. Has anyone else other than alex got the official offer letter. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/22/20100207/tuk-uk-britain-immigration-fa6b408.html

Go for it. Durham's a superb university and I'll probably be studying a general LLM there from October myself.
Personally, I selected a different college because I didn't like the idea of living in a purely postgraduate college but you may have different preferences to me.

Hi
Congrats to all who got the offer
I'm also applying Durham LLM int trade and commercial law
But my recommendation letters are dated in 2008. Is it alright? I had no chance to renew my letters because my advicer lecturers are abroad. I'm so stressful.

Well I guess it should work if you graduated in 2008-09. It would be appropriate to call up the law school admissions and figure it out so that your application gets processed smoothly.
I have a query...I am not able to understand the multiple college theory. Does all the colleges offer LLM. I have been offered a seat in castle or something..Is it good for LLM??
Secondly I have offers from Queen Mary and Edinburgh as well and I wish to pursue commercial law and arbitration. So which university will be the apt one?

Durham's college system isn't the same as the Oxbridge college system, where you would be taught within the college (not sure what the Oxbridge system is like for postgraduates though).
At Durham you choose a college that largely influences your social life at the university. You're actually taught in the departments. Castle is a prestigious college but both it and Hatfield have reputations for attracting "rah" types. I lived with two Durham graduates last year while I studied my LPC. One was from Castle, one from Van Mildert. On the plus side, the girl from Castle was the most gorgeous girl I've seen in a long time (but so many problems...).
Of the three you've suggested, Durham would have the most prestige, followed by Edinburgh. Queen Mary, however, probably offers the greatest choice of modules. If I were you I'd check the module lists for each institution and pick the most prestigious of those that allow you to study what you want.

thnx for the insight panthro. I am keen in pursuing LLM in dispute resolution and arbitration with specific stress on commercial law aspect and that is where QM scores a bit.
Btw i got a mail which says of something called brackenbury for accomodation

Once you have an offer your college mails you about accommodation. The building they mention is usually the one the college reserves for its postgraduates. In my case, I received an email about Deerness halls as they have a dedicated floor for postgraduate students.

And your point being? I am sure Hatfield is not as bad as you want to put it. There must be good things about it.

Hatfield has a reputation as being full of "rahs". It is one of the older colleges, second only to University ('Castle'). Basically you will probably find a lot of crying girls who can't cope without daddy ensuring they get everything they want. I lived with someone like that last year - she was from University College.
I'm about to accept my offer from Durham. I'm looking forward to studying there!

I will!
It's encouraging that Durham is continuing to rise in the rankings, though it's always one of the very top universities.
I love the sporting options Durham has - I'll get to play a lot of tennis!!

@Wheretogo: Re Hatfiled: I just want you to know about Hatfield's reputation in Durham. In the end, regardless of College, we're all Durham graduates.
The only difference is the tradition which varies from one college to the other. Since Hatfield is the 2nd oldest college, it has more tradition compared to the newer ones in the Hills Colleges, like Josephine Butler College for example.
Ustinov College is the exclusive postgraduate college and sad to say, it only has two formal dinners. What a bore! haha
Bottomline, make friends from all colleges and make sure you get invited to their formal dinners. :-)
