I'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are on Durham? I know its very well ranked but I've seen some posts say that the LLM is pretty rubbish and there are way too many foreign students, what's it really like?

Well.
To be frank ...
... Durham is shit.
Like Buxton Alabama academically.
But with bad food.
I knew a guy who went there.
Not smart. Bad character. Bad teeth. Bad psyche.
Stayed there for three years.

Hoping for something a little more helpful as I know Durham isn't bad reputation or rankings wise, just want more specific details.

but honestly, durham is really well respected...many consider it to be really close to the level of oxbridge... and I never heard a bad thing about its law school!

Thanks a lot, yeah I was just wondering, I've heard some complain about their being too many foreign students, I can't really see any experts on their law school staff etc... I just really don't know and don't want to waste money lol! But I know it has a good reputation.

Hey,
I know a couple of people who did their LLM in Durham. Spoke to one, he seems to be enjoying the LLM.
But generally I think the Durham reputation is greater within the UK than outside (for example not that many people in India would have heard of it).
Also, it is better known for its law undergrad than LLM.
Otherwise, good school, pretty campus.
And oh, eppendorf sucks. :)

Durham certainly is a splendid choice.
Just one remark: The "close to Oxbridge"-qualification made earlier in the thread is a double-edged sword. Sometimes in the law firm world Durham (as well as other places as Bristol, Exeter, Nottingham) is seen as a place "full of Oxbridge rejects".... On the other hand, this begrudging saying also contains a hidden compliment...

Durham is a really good university. Although I am not in the law school, I know people who study both LLB and LLM. Both happy, the workload is substantial but teaching is high standard.
Facilities wise I could not recommend it more. The library is 24/7 and offers excellent working environment. It is perhaps still one of the most affordable LLM's around since LLM's are now an extortionate price.

Very true, thanks for the comments! The only annoying thing is that they don't put much information up on the website and they don't seem to do much as regards property law.

An LLM normally has an international focusso you will find that most LLM programmes do actually focus on international aspects of law, i.e., arbitration, investment, environment and so forth. It is going to be a little hard to focus on property law since it is not so much transactional practice (compared with the others)

True enough, Edinburgh and a few London unis as well as Oxford seem to do property law but they are all very expensive.

Exactly, I was going to say the likes of UCL etc
Bristol seems to have what you are looking for and it is a super law school, have a look:

To a lesser extent but yes, never seen a course on 'restitution' before that's for sure!

They are very very good in contract law and tort so I am not surprised at all to see a course named restitution!

Fair enough, well I am still considering Durham but it looks like Edinburgh will be my top choice for now.
