This week I am seeing some of my completing LLM students from 2009/2010 regarding their career options. One point I am making to them, and is also worth making on LLMguide, because frankly I have seen no reference to it on here at all,-is the opportunities with the major accountancy and consultancy firms such as PWC and Deloitte.

One difficulty with discussing with law students their career options is that 90% are focussed on becoming lawyers. Well in fact as usually A star students doing very tough courses law students are attractive to a much wider range of businesses. This is particularly so for LLM students from foreign countries. Major consultancy firms are less likely to see your lack of UK or EU qualification as a barrier and will see your foreign languages and knowledge of foreign legal and business cultures as an asset. The LLM will demonstrate your competence and specific knowledge of business law would be valuable in their commercial operations.

So for all those finishing their dissertations this summer have a look at the major consultancy firms. It may prove for many to be a good route to a valuable and rewarding career.
