hey I am from India and I have not heard from Cambridge as well and all the people I know have not heard from there. I would like to know from all the people who have gotten though that whether they are aware of the selection criteria?is it only academics?or other things also matter? also, I read in one of the threads that Cambridge is more competitive than LSE, but I know lots of ppl who miss out on cambridge due to early deadline and that is not the case with LSE, Dont ya think less number of ppl apply for cambridge?but m sure cambridge standars are much higher as well, any idea how many students they take per batch, n which courses in LLM are highly competitive?I apologise for so many queries but wud be grateful if some one can enlighten me on this..

Further I have gotten thru King's college, Queens and Mary,Edinburgh, SOAS, and WarwicK.Kindly suggest me where to go keeping in mind not only the reputation but finances. thanks alot

For graduate degrees at unis like Oxbridge, they really take your academic results into serious consideration. From what I've read on this board it's unlikely they will consider you unless you first satisfy their entry requirements (67%+ Cam or 70%+ Oxford).

With regards to ur other offers, I'd think Kings and Edinburgh are good choices.

Well, I received a conditional offer. From the department - by e-mail (last week). I'm just wondering - how big are chances to get the scholarship from Cambridge Trusts. Do you have any idea? Also, I'm worried on the conditions - I have not received them yet, but perhaps somebody of you know if they put a certain academic standard into it? And, if you're not from UK, how do they assess this standard? (I'm not from UK, and our educational system gives evaluation in grades 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, but applied very seldom; my current average grade is above 8, which is considered very good). I have also received offers from LSE and King's. But, as far as I understand, they are not really comparable to Cambridge?

Hello Boys and Girls;

I got a conditional offer from Cambridge via e-mail on Feb 09th. It is stated that the formal offer letter will be sent via regular mail. However no news from the postman yet. In addition the self service page has not been updated and my status is still shown as applicant.
Did anyone recived anything via regular post from Cambridge yet?
Shall I start to get worried about this and contact the BGS or shall I wait a little longer?

to all you ppl from india, I called up cambridge yesterday and was informed that they consider applications geographically and the lady who i spoke to informed me that they will consider applications from India beginning on Monday onwards. So within three weeks ppl from India should start hearing from them.

I did graduate with a 1st, but from what I read on this board Cambridge seems to make offers for those with at least a 67% 2i degree.

Well, in country where I come from there are no 1st or 2nd class degrees. You get grades from 1 to 10, where 10 is the highest, and 4 is enough to pass. My average so far is 8.6, and I got a conditional offer.

The Cambridge LLM course website states:
"The minimum entry requirement for the LL.M. is normally a First class degree in law from a UK university, or the equivalent from an overseas institution."

The people that I know who have received offers like myself all achieved a 1st class degree (or its equivalent) although I have seen several people on this forum allude to a 67% minimum entry requirement. I do not know where this figure comes from and I had always presumed that a 1st class degree or its equivalent was necessary save in exceptional circumstances.

I'm in the same boat. Does anyone know when the cambridge trusts decision is released? Would that be at the time the formal letters are sent, or later? I would presume (or hope) that they'd make the trusts results known when the letters are sent, since we have three weeks from the date of recieving the letter to accept or reject the offer. How can one be expected to make that decision without knowing anything about funding?

Equity's Darling;

As far as I understand from the e-mail, our decision to accept the offer is not binding. We will have until (latest) 2 months before the beginning of the course to give a definitive answer (and unlike US schools, we don't have to pay until that time). However the trustees decision is a good point.
So we are looking for answers to the following questions:

1) When shall we expect the arrival of the formal offer letter?
2) When shall we expect the college decision?
3) When will the Board of Trustees decide on the allocation of funds?

If anyone knows the answer (based of credible info or previous years experience) please let us know.

Many thanks. (and who knows, c u soon :) )

You could probably jsut email the university otherwise I imagine you will hear by the end of April which is when my friends heard last year. For some their offer of admission was accompanied by funding but for others they had to wait until they arrived at Cambridge until they heard!
Also, Cambridge has its own online forum which is much more informative than this one (which is effectively the blind leading the blind and a whole lot of ppl trying to convince everyone else (or themselves) that the law school they have chosen to go to has the best reputation etc etc)
