agree ... but sometimes I couldn't help it...
Posted Mar 09, 2022 15:34
I just checked and I'm still under review unsurprisngly...
Posted Mar 09, 2022 15:59
No updates over here...still "under review".

I think we should all organise a protest outside the admissions office and school of law.
"What do we want?" ----- "Our LLMs"
"When do we want it?" ----- "NOW!!!!"

Same under review!
based on the stats provided in the last page, the mass rejections are still yet to come as not many ppl moved to rejections/PAO compared to previous years. What Cambridge might do is to push everything to the last two weeks of March, but it is simply unpredictable whether it will be a mass rejection then mass offers style based on their current practice.
No matter what justifications they have, we as applicants are entitled to feel anxious about their handling process. It is fair to say that the level of handling administrative matters by PAO is just unacceptable. I understand some will say technically Cambridge can update our portals during the last two weeks of March, but based on previous years, they have managed the applicants’ expectations. Now, sometimes it is not about the hard rules, but the practicalities and the trust we have given to Cambridge in the application process.

Has anyone had recent communication with the postgrad office?? Maybe they can shed some light on what is happening. They should at least tell us when we should expect something. This is giving us so much unnecessary stress and anxiety every single day!!!!

do you people think it’s possible that because of a backlog for the administration system they completely skip the PAO stage for those getting offers and declare an offer because of the delay???
Posted Mar 09, 2022 20:15
I doubt that - PAO is one of the essential stages of selecting students.
However, PAO is not something about which the university says that you will get information. Of course, it is recomforting to an extent, but it is still not a final decision, for which they have indicated as a deadline the end of March. I know, too, that it is excruciating to wait, but I believe that they are doing whatever they can and we can receive offers as soon as possible. As others indicated before, it is probable that they have received a lot of applications this year and I am afraid that here is nothing we can do :(

thank u for your reply. my only question is that how come a bunch of rejections came out last week and now there is radio silence?? surely they must have assessed all applicants already to be able to send out those rejections

I actually think this is a possibility..

That's the part that gives me hope that the law school have done their part and we're all still waiting on the PAO, probs wishful thinking though

Well there´s nothing clear, as anything can be causing this backlog, however I am leaning to believe that the problem must be either at the Academic Department or at PAO.
1) Academic Department:
a) Not all decisions were actually made by March 1st, so the Academic Department only updated the status of those who were directly rejected and is still struggling to define this year´s cohort, given the increase in the number of applications;
b) Decisions were made on March 1st but for some reason that we clearly don´t know (maybe the strike) the Academic Department hasn´t sent to PAO the files of those who have been admitted. (Which would make sense with the responses that people have received by email).
2) PAO:
a) PAO may be oversaturated with decisions from other departments, so it put the LLM decisions on hold.
b) PAO unexpectedly decided to take a week long brake.

Thank you for all your insights! I'm not sure whether there has been a larger number of applications than usual though. The website says there have been 1200 applications this year, and to my knowledge (although I don't remember where I read it), there were about 1800 last year. This is where I saw how many applications were sent in this year: https://llm.law.cam.ac.uk/admissions
That is why I don't think there has been a delay in assessing all the applications yet because the website has not changed the 1st March date as well. It is most probably a backlog with the PAO.

Is that updated year on year or is it just a rough estimate?

It seems like it is updated every year because it specifies 1200 applications for the 2022-23 academic year

Hopefully adds some credibility to my theory that we're just stuck at pao

Yes, that is really giving me hope tbh! But I don't want to get too optimistic incase rejections are still to come

I search on google and found the following info re: previous years no. of applications. 1200 does seem remarkably low.
