Cambridge Application 2021-2022

llmhopeful...

Huge, and sincere, congratulations to gary666 and others that have received offers already!

What an incredible achievement!

For those of us still waiting, not much else we can do but I am grateful to those who have shared their offers so far.

I don't need to know you to discredit you, I'm surely you are a lovely person but you're not immune to making mistakes and wishing me good luck after unnecessarily arguing does not give you some moral high ground either.
You're not a guru, sorry if my comment made you nervous or uncomfortable but hey good luck lol.
The purpose of my comment if you bothered to read it (you did somehow find time out of your busy schedule!) and not just focus on the part about yourself was to explain to people that it is highly common and has been in previous years for people to receive offers early.
My reason for mentioning you is that you made a statement, one which had the effect of discrediting my earlier comments but also did not provide certainty to the application process.
This forum is to provide information and certainty for current and future applicants on the application process of top LLM programmes around the world.
Your statement something along the lines of 'I did see somebody who reached GOA and was rejected in a previous thread, cannot remember where'.
As somebody else has quitely rightly said, we are lawyers! You should be well aware that words have meaning and when you make a statement like this backed up with no proof it creates uncertainty as to the application process, not to mention worrying every single current and future applicant that reaches the GOA.
Your initial comment does not make me nervous or uncomfortable, I'm a big boy, I've never reached the GOA anyway. But it does indeed make me frustrated, frustrated that without a link to a previous thread which you could have taken the time out of your busy schedule to find (you clearly have been spending months researching threads, regularly checking this thread and taking the time to argue) that you could have brought certainty and reassured a number of applicants who will stumble upon this forum.
Willy nilly statements like yours are the reason poor souls still think decisions are made based on alphabet and applicants like Gary666 are being labelled as trolls.
How many future applicants will panic after seeing your comment about GOA rejections. How many will then rummage through past threads trying to find proof to your statement which you couldn't be bothered to back up in the first place.

Clearly nobody seems to be listening to the guy who is applying for the third time. Or simply people just cannot be bothered to look through this thread the threads of previous years.

You will see (if you bother to look at previous threads) that there have always been a few users who receive their offer before others.

The reason for this (as I have previously stated in this thread).

Stronger applicants receive their offers earlier they are the 'cream of the crop' , Cambridge University then filter through the applications to form their ideal cohort.

This cohort is based not only on strength of applications but diversity quotas, backgrounds and what benefits students bring to the rest of the cohort.

If your MCL application has gone to GOA, it is likely that your LLM application will go to GOA too.

In the past there have been students still under review who don't go to GOA but receive their offers via email later in the month.

If your application goes to GOA then it is highly likely that you have been granted admission into Cambridge University.

^ To the person who commented in this thread stating something like 'I did see a case where one student went to GOA and got rejected but couldn't remember where I saw it'.

I didn't see that... and since the person couldn't bother to take the time to remember or look through previous threads before making such a comment I would dismiss it.

But yes to put this comment to bed. It isn't unheard of for some students to hear the outcome of their applications before others, in fact based on previous threads it is quite common.

Naz Khan, first of all, there are 841 threads regarding the Cambridge LLM & MCL and i've given a good look to all of them in the last few months for the satisfaction of my own curiosity. As I said, I did see a case where this happened over the past few months but I wasn't as obsessed in order to provide "proof". I have a life and other things to do as well rather than looking through 841 threads to find the *one*. This place is just a forum where we all get to share our experience and journey regarding a similar matter, and it's very sad to see someone discrediting someone just because something, that may very well be true and happen, might make them nervous. Don't go around discrediting people without knowing them. I'm not a troll, I'm an aspiring LLM student (for the first time as well), just like yourself and the fact that you've applied 3 times doesn't make you a guru. So don't act like one and discredit anyone who says something that makes you uncomftarble.

I wish you the best of luck

poor souls? You, me and everyone else here has the privilege of being able to apply to a top university such as Cambridge and you describe them as poor souls? No one’s life is dependent on it, so chill.
“How many future applicants will panic after seeing your comment about GOA rejections” — if a comment that only states that I saw ONE case that this happened, out of the thousands that say that if you reach the GOA it’s almost certain you’re in, then this person needs to put things into perspective and check his anxiety because mental health is a great deal especially during times like these.
this is the last comment I am making on this subject am I am not here to use this forum for anything else than it is.
good luck to everyone! :)
Congrats! When did your application status change to GAO approval?
Exactly one week ago.
I smell... a troll
You are indeed... a troll hunter.

Just because you and many others in the last two years received relatively late results does not necessarily indicate I mislead people here. If you care to check 2018/2019 cycle, there are even earlier results.

When I shared the news about the status change from under review to awaiting approval by GAO, some others were also skeptical, and I can understand that, but noone expressed that in a way like you do. Still, just to put an end to all the doubts I shared the screenshot of my application tracker then.

You have every right to be skeptical, however you should not classify people as "trolls" without explaining your reasons and expressing yourself in a respectful manner. Otherwise, how can you differantiate yourself from the so called "trolls"?

If you promise to apologize here afterwards, I can clear all your doubts by sharing whatever documents you want to see (and of course I will conceal the parts which contain personal information). I just want to help fellow applicants by sharing updates to ease the pain of waiting since I still have that pain maybe not for Cambridge but for other programs like LSE.

In addition, I noticed this is your first post after a while. There were many questions under many topics in the website where you can help other people as a previous applicant and offer holder but no, you have not posted to help anyone. There are people here who try to help others with the experience and knowledge they have and I am personally grateful for their help. Thus, your approach makes me wonder your reasons to post now. I believe it is not for helping others by identifying a "troll".

Enough of ad hominem, best of luck guys! I hope you receive good news soon.
Point is just that it seems unlikely that one person would move through GAO and email offer before any significant reports here of others moving to GAO.

No need for the other attacks thanks. Can we relax with the dissertation-length comments now maybe

Yes, please. Waiting wasn’t giving that much anxiety, but reading these long, adversarial comments is definitely making me nervous. Can we please not?
It’s just a university. Yes, it may stand for excellence. But is it really worth fighting and stressing over?

Awesome. I got an offer for St John, but I might have to give up for another college which has a possible studentship offer. Let's see how it goes...

St. John’s is so so beautiful :) give or take they all provide the same things, I pointed out St Johns (that’s where my boyfriend was for 3,5 years) and trinity because they have the biggest endowments & therefore best accommodation.

Hope you end up at a college that makes you feel like home. x

A friend who read Law at Cambridge told me that, although a bit more expensive, Downing has fantastic hotel-like accommodation (I've checked it and it looks great indeed: https://www.dow.cam.ac.uk/students/accommodation/accommodation-search/rooms-battcock-lodge/battcock-lodge-room-3).

Has anyone received an offer for the MCL yet? My status on the portal for my MCL app changed to "Awaiting approval by GAO" some time last night. I am trying not to get prematurely excited haha and was wondering if anyone had heard yet/ had any insights into when one might hear!

Also, I have to ask - do people still get rejected after their portal updates to "awaiting approval by GAO"?

Btw, my LLM application status is still "under review".

My understanding is that rejection after getting into the GAO approval stage is highly improbable due to its administrative nature. The status of my LLM application has also changed into GAO approval stage (since 14th February). The website states that it takes around 10 days to process the application after getting into said stage.

Definitely good news! I’ve seen at least 2 other MCL offers mentioned on this thread, on the 12th and 14th Feb.

Very exciting - well done!!
