Don't be pessimistic! You might just not be eligible for these scholarships and be for others.

On the other hand, i have (slightly) bad news for those with scholarship emails - i've just talked to a friend who got such a scholarship email last year and was rejected a few days later.
So, it is true that the 2 things are just disconnected...

However, differently from the scholarship that stated that being offered the possibility to apply did not imply the student was offered a place on the course, the HEFCE scholarship website states that they will only contact students after these are offered a place on a course. Time will tell...

As expected I have received my rejection from Oxford. Didnt surprise me one bit though because I expected it.
Now off to Cambridge.
Good luck to all those still waiting.
Is there any particular reason you would have expected a rejection from Oxford but not from Cambridge?

I haven't heard anything yet. I don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing. Perhaps they're sending out offers in phases?

Yes. My Oxford application had so many errors that I realised after submitting. Plus one of my referees sent my Cambridge recommendation to Oxford by mistake. He forgot to change the names. But I have got into Cambridge. Good luck guys.

okay, so far: Monday, first scholarship Emails, Tuesday, Scholarship plus first rejection letters are out, no one got an offer yet (correct?) - let us hope for today :)
