Dear Mira and junkhouseblues,
Although I did not apply to the JSD program this year, I am considering to apply next year. Since you evidently already went through all the mental considerations involved (and probably will welcome the chance to think about something else ;) ), I was wondering if you would mind sharing your point of view and experience on the following issues:
1. Did you also consider getting a PhD in law somewhere else (e.g. the UK)? If so, why choose the JSD in the US over a PhD somewhere esle?
2. What was your main reason for choosing NYU? Did you also consider applying to other programs? Which ones?
3. Did you get in contact with any professor before submitting your JSD application? Were they helpful and receptive?
4. I am having problems identifying the right format for the "Proposal of study". Does such a thing exist? Or is it rather a free form essay coupled with a tentative bibliography?
A final point I would appreciate, but only if you feel comfortable about it, would be to get a sense of your background.
Thanks!
PS: Good luck with your applications!
