Hey there,
I have been offered a spot in this year's LL.M. programme in PILC. I was just curious if there are any others who got accepted and are still observing and monitoring the posts about this programme here.
It would be pretty handy to keep in touch in advance, in my opinion. I'm sure most people use Facebook nowadays anyway. :) My name is Güneş, I'm from Turkey. I'm currently working on my Bar admission that will hopefully be over before I arrive in Brussels.
Cheers, and see you all in September!

Hello! I have been admited too at the PILC programme 2011 - 2012. I think is the best choice. What do you know about the Programme? It is anyone who have already done it? How it is?
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.

Hello!
I'm Marilena from Greece. I just received mail announcing I was admitted to PILC. Although I 'm truly excited, I'm still expecting answers from three more universities (mainly in UK). So I'll be very confused if admitted to any other LLM too. However, I don't want to miss the opportunity to be in Brussels, in the heart of EU!
PILC is highly recommended by the Department of International Studies in my Law faculty (in Athens) and that's how I heard about it. As far as I know it's one of the few existing LLM in Europe combining International and European Law effectively. I heard it's comparable to similar masters/LLM in UK. But I don't know a single person that has completed it.
Does anybody know why we get only 60 credits for the whole LLM? Other equivalent LLM in UK have 180 credits... Is there any difference in the degrees?
I 'm considering to create a facebook group named after PILC 2011-2012 so that we can gather there. :-)

Yep, a group might come in handy :)
There are no difference in degrees at all, you will still have an LL.M. degree :) The credit difference might be about the level though, however I don't know about the programmes you have applied for in the UK, consider the fact that this is actually classified as a "master-after-master". You actually have to have approximately 240 credits at hand to apply to it and to get admitted, which is equivalent to four years of Law School, at least in Turkey. :)

Well, I haven't thought about the difference in duration of undergraduate studies in UK. You must be right.. Anyway, I have completed four years of studies, so it's ok for me.
Will you accept the place in PILC?
I wonder how many students have applied for it..
Do you think it's popular in Europe?
I'm on my way to Facebook for the creation of the group ! :-)

I most definitely will accept it, actually I will be paying the fee next week. :)
It is pretty reputed among its peers, and pretty much unique in its main topics. Since it was my one and only application and the only place I wanted to go (due to personal and academical reasons), I have had a detailed research.
When I called the secretariat, they told me there were around eighty applications. I suppose most people don't know about it due to the prejudices about Brussels being a 'boring city', so they simply pick more 'fun cities'.
The programme and the faculty is very well known, in fact. And the location simply boosts its convenience. It's Brussels after all - many, many job/internship opportunities parallel to what we will be studying. Those were the main points I took into consideration while applying.

It's like hearing myself!
I have known this LLM for around 2 years and it was love at first sight! It has exactly the subjects I'd like to study and it's in the city I want to be... for both personal and academic reasons too.
Can you give me the name you have on facebook? Coz it won't let me create the group if i don't invite at least one 'friend'. I just tried it.

Hi everybody,
I too have been admitted to this LLM. The LLM looks good and has good professors.. I am eager to know if the LLM has a good reputation and if it is known/valued outside Belgium.
Any info on the merits of this LLM would be much appreciated!

I 've done some quick 'research' about the university and I found out that it has been in the top 250 universities of the world since 2009.
Generally, the LLM to which we are admitted is supposed to be unique, as it combines international with european law. It is also claimed that the alumni have good jobs/ positions now (eg in European Commission, international law firms, other organs of EU etc)
I just wonder whether the same LLM from Aberdeen or Edinburgh (which are in the top 15 universities in Europe) is considered more 'prestigious' or with higher value... But after all, I believe that our careers do not depend only on the 'origin' of our LLM but also on the extra stuff we do to enhance our CV.

I would recommend this program, only in the case that you have already an outstanding CV and you want to grab the opportunity for some networking or experiencing Brussels. Otherwise, the program does not offer professional opportunities per se. Of course, if one is aware of the above and conscious about her/his choice can benefit from it.
