Hello Sofia and welcome to the board.
In answer to your first question, I would advise contacting the International Office directly. It would be in your best interests to clarify the situation with the University directly to avoid jeopardising your place on either course.
Secondly, if you have already undertaken an LLM in PIL, why are you applying for the advanced LLM? This doesn't make sense to me but perhaps I have misinterpreted your post. In terms of comparing the quality of the programs, a regular LLM at Leiden is an appropriate match to the level of UCL and Essex. Indeed, in many areas, I think the Leiden program is superior to the two aforementioned institutions.
Congratulations on your acceptance.

hi!!Thank you very much for your immediate reply.
I applied for the Adv. programme because I want to specialize in international criminal law. So, I thought that as I already have an LLM it would be better to attend a more specialized and advanced course and then, maybe, a PhD.
So you think that the regular LLM is as good a choice as the Advanced?

Hi,
You should definitely ask the IO of Leiden for this. I assumed you were eyeing for a second LLM, in particular the Adv. LLM from Leiden.
But nevertheless, you are potentially right, that admission to one LLM means rejection to another. This is because when I was admitted to the Adv. PIL, I never heard that I was accepted to the Reg. PIL, even now (6 months after application).
The good news is you are not yet officially rejected, so you should just ask the IO of Leiden, and inquire if you could be considered for the Adv. LLM. There are some reasons why you would not be considered, which is either qualification, or even the fact that the Adv. LLM program has limited spots. Because of this, the best course of action for you is definitely to ask the IO.

Adila

Thank you very much Adila!
Do you think that it is worth attending the regular LLM if you have already another LLM?
I am quite confused about this and also about the opportunities given to regular LLM students and to Adc. LLM students.

Hi Sofia. I am graduating from the LLM(adv) in PIL in July. My advice for you is to take up the llm(adv) if you can, it will give you a much more expansive view of PIL. The regular LLM is very good, and there is some overlap, but in many respects, it is much more of a beginners course in PIL. if you have that background already from another LLM, that may not be the best option for you. That being said, my perspective of the regular LLM here is that it is really just there to facilitate a very healthy student social life (which tragically, is non-existant for us doing the LLM(adv)). As it were, the Adv course is what you make of it - those who excel do so on their own merits within the infrastructure of the course (you will see how true this is for yourself soon enough).
best of luck making your decision

I saw in this board that some of you were discussing the HSP Huygens Scholarship Programme. I have also applied for the HSP scholarship for one of the programmes at Leiden but unfortunately my application was disapproved. However, I was put on the reserve list for an IBL programme at another university.
Does anyone know what are the chances of the reserve candidates to receive in practice the HSP Scholarship?

Hi Kon-tiki,
I got a HSP Huygens to take LLM in international tax law at Leiden this year. I think your chance to get a HSP huygens scholarship depends on your rank in the reserve list. If your name is put in the first or second rank of the reserve list, you are likely to get the scholarship.

Out of about 35 reserve candidates, I am somewhere in the middle. That's why I think my chances are not very realistic.

It's not completely unrealistic however. Lots of scholarship candidates are also considering other schools, and if their profile is really good, chances of them considering accepting places at higher ranked schools might be higher.
According to HSP, lots of scholars ended up rejecting the HSP, it must be why the reserve list go up to 30 (or so). And according to somewhere I read, most end up receiving the scholarship anyways from the reserve list, so I guess you have a good chance since you're in the middle.
I guess you should prepare for the worst case (not receiving it), but hope for the best (getting the scholarship).
Good luck!

Thanks a lot for your opinion. I hope I would get it eventually. If not I have some reserve choices.

I think that you may have good chances. I personally was awarded with a Gold Lexs Scholarship but I refused it. Wish you good luck!

Hey guys!
First of all, congrats to everyone who was admitted into Leiden :) And another round of applause for those of you who applied for HSP - or other scholarship programmes - and got it!
My question is: how many applicants are awarded with the HSP (or Lexs) each year? I looked around bothe the HSP and Leiden's website, but can't seem to find that info.
Cheers!

Hi everybody!I need some urgent info.I have just received a housing offer form Accommodate and I think it's maybe the most expensive I could get, 555 euros at the Hooigracht building. Does somebody know anything about the location etc?It seems really nice and I would love to stay\ there but i just can't afford it.I have only 3 days to accept/reject this offer and they have told me that there isn't anything else available.
Also, does anyone know what are the living expenses for a student in Leiden?for example, if I have to spend 555 euros per month for housing, how much should I expect to spend (per month) in total (for supermarket, books/photocopies etc) ?

I applied for an NFP scholarship and I received a letter stating that my application was not granted allegedly for the reason that the Master of Laws in Advanced Studies in European and International Business Law program was not allocated a fellowship.
Is this true or was this just a nice way of saying "sorry, you didn't make it"?

Hi, I applied for HSP Huygens for same programme and my application was denied. So I think your assumption could be true.

I am of the opinion that all programs listed in the CROHO List are possible to be granted an HSP Huygens scholarship. Just like you guys, I used to think that HSP huygens scholarship is only granted for programs that relate to community development or humanity only and will not be available for commercial and business minded programs such as Int and European Business Law Program that both of you applied for. However, this year I am granted an HSP huygens scholarship for LLM in International Tax Law which is very commercial and business minded. Therefore, it is proven that our assumption is not true.
