Leiden - Tax Law 2013-14

NeedTax

Hello everyone, I've also applied to the International Tax Law LLM and have already been unconditionaly accepted. My girlfriend also applied but she hasn't received any answer until now. Does anybody know the deadline to receive it?

tks
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

It usually takes 3-4 weeks for them to reply but i think they're having Queens week in the Netherlands and everything is shut till the 9th. May be that is causing the delay. There shouldn't be a problem as long as she applied before the deadline (April 1st if i'm not mistaken). You should check the status online (where you filled the online application).

She should check in her spam as well because i received mine in there.

Thank you for your answer, Need. I'm checking her online application page on a daily basis but nothing has changed since her application was sent to faculty. We are afraid that she might not be accepted because all places have been filled. Do you know how many students are accepted for year?

tks again

Hi Daniel,

I've been trying to search only since December but haven't had any luck getting class statistics. But I think 25-30 is the usual norm with a minor increase every year. One site mentioned Leiden Advance courses are going to accept 40-45 this year but none of this is concrete. Why not try asking your international programmed officer?

Thank you one more time for your answer. She sent an e-mail to her contact person on last Friday but she hasn't received any answer until now. Maybe this is due to the Queens week you mentioned before. We heard that Leiden doesn't like to have many students from the same nationality in the same program, do you know if this is true?

Not sure about the nationality thing. But I'm Indian and I know of at least three other Indians admitted to this course with us. So I doubt that's the case.

Congratulations!!

I sent the email that I did not have an interest in renting a room at the ITC Student Residence Hall's. I plan to look for separate housing to live with my wife.

Hey there! A quick question especially for those currently enrolled in this LLM:

As a prospective student I am thinking about whether I should apply to this programme. Thing is, I will finish my Bachelor's degree this year (relatively good grades, Top 5%) and I have only done a Practicum traineeship in the Local Taxation Administration for two months. Do you think it is enough to get admitted in this Advanced Master or further curriculum is required?

Thank you

Hello prospective students of ITC,

As current students of the ITC in Leiden we would be happy to help you with all your questions, considering the fact that we don't study, just drink beer! =) Jokes apart, this is a fantastic course if you want to specialize in International Tax law and definitely worth the time, energy and money.

Regarding your question about wether a bachelor's degree and practical traineeship is enough, that are lots of people in our course who have just graduated and have limite or no experience, so that shouldn't be an issue, subject to your grades, recommendation letters and essay (i.e. you must know how to "sell" yourself). However this might be an issue if you are non-EU and are looking for a permanent job in Europe.

Best of luck and we hope to see you in six months in our graduation diner, where we will get wasted!

Cheers,

Hello current students of ITC,
I have been admitted to the IT programme and am very excited.
I want to know so much but would ask few specific questions here.
After the course ends, does the college help getting some internships or some job (may be not a permanent job)?? I have heard there is a lot of scope for int tax students in netherland itself. I would like to work there for 6 months or may be a year.
And also, regarding LeXS, I have applied for it? I want it.. On what basis is it given and how many students get it?
And I saw ADIT on ITC's website...Is it recommended to do it?

Thank you
JP

Hi again,

I'm going to try and answer your question assuming you are non-EU. The ITC has a career service and there are quite a few recruiters. However, it is quite hard for non-EU students to get visas for permanent jobs and recruiters are not willing to take up very recent graduates or those with limited work experience. Many firms in The Netherlands however do offer internships and if that is your goal, you may be lucky.
Further, The Netherlands has a 'zoekjaar' visa which allows graduates to pursue work in The Netherlands for one year without the employer having to sponsor them. That however, is only for one year and Dutch companies really want people who speak dutch, especially in International tax law services. Dutch is not a major issue if you want to work in Transfer Pricing.

Regarding the LeXs, I am only aware of 1 or may be 2 student in our year who got it but the criteria for providing it is not transparent and hence there is no information available.

Further, regarding the ADIT, it is a good course and you even get exemptions from certain exams of the ADIT if you are pursuing the ITC LLM. Whether, you should give it or not is your judgement call based on your career aspirations and education goals. You should know that the LLM is very intensive course and i do not recommend doing any additional courses at least till March end. The course for us has only recently started getting a little easier.

I hope this answers your questions.

NT
