Graduate Institute - LL.M. in International Law 2020-2021

Nuna

Guys, I've received acceptances from the Geneva Academy (LLM programme on IHL) and the Graduate Institute, Geneva (LLM in International Law, specialising on Protection of the Individual).

I don't know which to choose. What would you suggest and why?

Hi Raat _ jaga ,
Its important to first clarify that both of them are really highly recommended and very well known in the feild of international law , but what makes one option better than the other depends on the interests of each candidate for example : if you are basically interested in international humanitarian law or human rights you should definetly choose the Geneva Academe ;However , if you are interested in other topics related to international law other than that of human rights you should definitely go for the Graduate institute . On the other hand , they are both highly reputated for international law in general .
Hope my message finds you well ,
Best regards .

Hey Marina,
I dont know how would you take it, but I think that's a great achievement. I am on the waiting list for admission and I want full scholarship:d. I already had lost my hopes on this program, but now that I see they have given an admitted applicant only a partial tuition waive and thats not even for sure, I bid my farewell with Geneva.
I also got a partial scholarship from Radboud, Netherlands, but that wont help me either.
It is really hard to get full scholarship for LLM
Best wishes,

Hi! I was admitted to the program, but last week they sent me a message saying that my application for the scholarship has been unsuccessful. Since I could not secure funding to attend the course, today I have withdrawn my acceptance.
Therefore, there might be good chances for those who are on the waiting list!
Good luck!

You are right! Sorry I sounded ungrateful or something like that, I am beyond thrilled about being accepted into the programme and for being even considered for the scholarship. I was just a little upset yesterday for getting this close to attend my dream programme and not being able to because of my financial position. But now it's the time not to lose hope and hopefully look for other funding opportunities or just trying again next year. In any case, there are more important things in life!

Take care and good luck with your options! Speaking of Netherlands, the government normally helps students with rent (search for huurtoeslag) and you are allowed to work part-time on weekends, for example (plus you don't need to wait 6 months to start working like in Switzerland). It's definitely something worth considering! I have a few friends who went there with only a partial scholarship and not enough funds at first but managed :)

If you get admitted by Geneva Institute, it means you can get scholarship from less prestigious universities.
Actually I have PhD admission from Free university of Berlin and its tuition free, unlike Radboud that even with partial scholarship gets 2000€ tuition. Thats why if I dont get full scholar, I prefer to go for Berlin. Anyway, many thanks for your great information, I will check it for sure.
I keep my fingers crossed for you.

Hey guys, I am looking for some advice. I want to study International Economic Law and I'd love to work in international organizations. I've been admitted to thw Graduate Institute and the University of Amsterdam. My top choice would be Geneva but the difference in tuition fees makes me doubt a lot. Amsterdam would be very affordable for me, while going to Geneva would mean having a big student debt. Do you think it is worth it? Any kind of advice would be amazing! Thanks!

Hey, same is my case, too. I'm from Nepal, and we, too, are in a lockdown, and the banks are closed. In addition, we have some exchange control restrictions, which needs other offices to be opened for it to be relaxed. Can't really pay the fee. I'm writing to Ana this afternoon.
Congratulations on your selection :)

Hi Guys,

Got offer from Geneva Institute. Was on waiting list before.
But now confused between LLM in IPR from UK or Geneva Institute International Law.

Really interested in making career in Patents. LLM in IPR would be hard core IPR and Geneva Institute would be International economic law with courses on Patents.

Can someone guide me which one will be better option?
