college of europe 2011/2012

I am also Belgian and had the interview last Thursday. I received an e-mail today saying that I was admitted for the LL.M and that they would send the official documents by the end of May.

Regarding the interview (which I did by phone), they asked me :
- Wat would be my professional project after the College (I have 2 years of work experience in IP law);
- Whether something had been recently achieved re. EU patents;
- What are the language rules of the EU agency were I'm currently trainee;
- something about a specific ECJ judgment related to an article I wrote.

Best of luck to all of you

ok, a propos my interview, i was asked:
- why COE? (eng)
- what i am interested in (institutional part of EU or le droit de la concurrence)?
- what are the changes regarding "concentration" in the last 10 yrs? (fr)
- something about my thesis (eng)
- interpretation of primary law of EU (eng)
- is there any legal basis in the primary law of EU concerning antitrust? What about in our national constitution?
- which subjects would i choose if i get admitted? (fr)

that was all :P
they were kind and pretty nice (prof. Dominik Hanf and one assistant prof.)

Hey,

I just got the news that I didn't get in, but that I am on the reserve list. Do they put everyone who got rejected on the reserve list?
Anyway, congratulations for those who got in! Enjoy!

Hi everyone,
I'm an applicant from the UK and applied for IRD this year. I put down EIS as a second choice but made it quite clear on the application that IRD was the only subject for me, even going so far as to omit a letter of motivation for EIS. Yesterday I received an email from the CoE inviting me to interview for EIS without any mention of my first choice or IRD. Is anyone else in the same position and if so, am I to take this as a refusal for IRD or are interviews simply carried out separately for the courses?
Any insight would be appreciated!

Hello!
I'm an applicant from the UK too. I applied for IRD and European Political and Admin Studies, and I got the email yesterday inviting me to an interview for both. The only thing that I can think is that because EIS is Natolin not Bruges the interviews are done differently, because it seems strange that they would offer you one and not the other when you'd been frank about your preferences... But if you don't get another email do you think you'll still go for the interview anyway?

Hi Larnach22, yes, it had crossed my mind about the Natolin Campus perhaps being decided separately but as you have received an invitation for IRD as a UK applicant too it obviously means that they have assigned interviews for the course already. I guess I may have been unlucky on that one but it was just puzzling when, as you say, I was quite frank from the start. What's your degree background just out of curiosity? I think that I will still attend the interview for EIS to keep that avenue open as a possibility but it is slightly disheartening when it really wasn't my objective in the first place.
Good luck in your interviews, they must have liked your application to have offered two interviews so take that as a very good sign!

Thank you! I was really pleased, and I do think you should go. I'm sure you'd get just as much enjoyment and as many opportunities out of it. And the fact that you got it despite a nonchalant application and no cover letter means they really must want you even though IRD is over-subscribed so they couldn't fit you on that particular course. I do a combined law/french major at Lancaster Uni, what do you do?

I'm so nervous for the interviews, in a way I wish they were longer than 15 minutes, the pressure is on to prove yourself with it being such a short time...

I graduated last year in French, Spanish and Portuguese and have been doing an internship since then so I do understand why they felt my background was probably more matched to EIS as opposed to IRD.
Yeah, I'm starting to slightly worry about this looming interview now as I'm not sure how specific they're going to be in their questioning. By any chance have any other candidates from other countries who have already been interviewed for EIS got any insight into questions etc?
Larnach22, I know what you mean about the 15 minutes being a small window to get everything you want across but at least it will probably mean that questions and answers will be relatively direct and concise!

Hi nirontrip,

I am also an ENP candidate, but I've applied for EIS. No news so far...I was writing to the admission office at the end of March, they told me there won't be any news until the end of April. So I hope by the end of the week we will know whether we were preselected for the interview.
Good luck!

PS: where are you form and what have you applied for?

Hi TTEA, hi nirontrip,

have you both applied only to Bruges? Where are you form?
Would be interesting to know whether there are candidates from all ENP countries.
I am ukrainian, but doing my studies in Germany.

No news today...so I fear we will have to wait until next week...

good luck for all of us! :-)
