hello,
I'm attending Sydney Law School this coming March. I have a problem with my accommodation. Do any of you guys know what kind of housing is the most suitable for foreing students? My budget would be around 250-280 AUD per week. I would love to live near campus but that must be expensive. I have considered on-campus housing but they are so expensive and they said that they are all fully booked for the coming semester.
So, if there is anyone living in Sydney or will be attending Sydney U. please share some ideas here.
I'll be checking the post every so often. Thanks!

I am a local Sydneysider (and 1/2 way through a USYD LLM coursework degree).
If you are prepared to share a flat/house etc (as opposed to live on your own) your budget will go along way. If you want a flat to yourself it would be doable but a bit of a stretch.
USYD main campus (where most of the law subjects will be taught next year (some will still be taught at the existing law school in the CBD) is at the somewhat cheaper end of town. (Although its trendy amongst some sets and there is a definite trend towards urban renewal in that area. I personally wouldn't want to live in the area around the campus - but this is a personal thing, there are 1000's of people who want to live there (and wouldn't want to live where I live).
If you were paying more than AUD200 for a share place (excluding utility bills of ~$30 a week) it would certainly want to be a pretty decent place.
The transport options to USYD are excellent. Redfern train station is the nearest station and there is a very well worn path from there to campus (1000's of students do it a day) It's maybe a 10 minute slow walk. If you are prepared to spend even just 10 or 15 minutes on a direct train service to get to and from uni - your potential pool of places to chose from will be quite frankly huge. Redfern station is only one stop from Central and nearly all lines will pass through Redfern in addition to Central. www.cityrail.info has all the maps of the lines.
www.flatmatefinders.com.au is a good site for trying to find a share place. I have used it in the past (and know of others who have too). It would only be of use a bit closer to March - as rooms available tend to only get advertised no more than a month before they actually become available (and often less).
Happy to answer any more specific questions you may have.
