I expect to receive the second email next week so that I can arrange for the rest of things soon. Tuition fee arrangement is the biggest challenge to achieve and then accommodation will come at the second place. I heard that a room reservation should be done in May.

any idea as to what exactly is to be done for a student pass and a visa? I know it is to be done only after the details are sent in May, but how long does it approximately take? Further, I guess we could discuss about accomodation arrangements and details sometime soon, and could maybe even decide about sharing rooms if possible...are hostels available usually, and if yes, what are the approximate costs?

Refer to previous posts, i guess it could take a couple of weeks to complete those stuffs related to visa and student pass. For accomodation, people prefer to get a room in Evans Lodge or SIC which is advisable to reserve in early June, we also might think of searching for a private rental room/condo nearby the campus. The rate will b various, should somebody help to quote the actual rental rate in the market this time?

As far my knowledge goes we would have to apply through SOLAR system for the students pass and pay a fee through credit card. Details for the application will be sent on the second mail. When that is done succesfully, the Immigration authrotity would send the IPA to NUS which would be forwarded to us via email. A Visa letter will be incorporated with IPA which is one time entry pass to enter Singapore. Coming to the accomodation part, yes there are hostels such as Evans Lodge (this one is closest to the campus) but the costs are no less than 500-800 SGD depending on the type of room you require. Another option is to look for private accomodations such as renting a flat or a room. The accomodation expenditures are way too high compared to other countries i believe. If you want a single room (common or master) they would come within the above mentioned price. However, I have seen accodomations availibility under 600 SGD but only if you are willing to share the room with 1 or more studetns.

it is advisable to get a place in Evan's Lodge. it is close to campus. campus is located in Bukit Timah area, which is one of the most expensive areas in S'pore. and property prices have been shooting thru the roof recently. any way, u can get some idea in iproperty.com. the areas that are nearby include toa payoh, bukit timah whole area, some parts of jurong and the city center areas. but seriously, not worth the hassle.

@Ngannp / about SIC
I've stayed in SIC
and I enjoyed - mainly because the people who stayed there.
I had single room. The internet you have only in the common room but many times it is very slaw or even you will be disconnected. the best connection is at NUS campus. Campus is pretty near 15 minutes by walk through the botanic gardens. Very important McDonalds is so near! The foodcourt Adams Road is near as well. The room is cleaned every day. It is pretty small though and, at least my, very very humid. I believe AC is in every room. There is no curfew as such, but the lights in common room are turned off at 11 pm. No visitors allowed at least when I was there. Some people complained about the conditions in SIC so they moved to the private flats. For me it was cool and definitely it was good choice, at least for those 3 months I stayed there.

I didnt meet any single taxi driver who knew where is lutteran road or SIC, so always ask to go to the intersection Farrer Road / Bukit TImah road SIC is very clause from there. From airport you can take a metro to the centre and then change to the red line to the Newton station. Than you can take bus 171, 170 and some others which I dont remember. As only you come to Singapore, you can buy MRT card for transportation both Metro (=MRT) and buses. The deposit is 10 - 15 sin, plus you can top up as much as you want. I dont remember the minimum fare, I think it was like 2-3 SIN per traqnsportation. Depands where you are going. Well, I think that those detail s are well known by others participants of this thread who live in Singapore now.

Hi Maydiba,

I could actually send you my plan in the xlsx format, when it is finalized.
but I can also post some ideas here :)

Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games

I like sports very much, so I have already bought the tickets to the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, 14 26 August 2010. I think the event will be spectacular. Tickets can be purchased online. Singapore Post sponsors the delivery, so I have received tickets in Latvia in 8 days. As to the prices, I have paid SGD30 for the finals and SGD10 for preliminary events. Some events, like beautiful sailing, are free of charge. As to the Opening and Closing ceremonies, you can apply for a ticket and you will get a reply on whether you are getting a ticket or not by May 23. Maybe somebody is interested?
