Hi,

The classes went on really well. I am also from a non legal background but I dont think that will make much of difference. Be from legal or non legal background to pass MBL from NLSIU is not that easy. I dont think even the LLB's have to give cent percent effort as we have to. So dont worry about that, unless you prepare according to the MBL framework, no one is going to get an edge over others.

I agree, people from legal background will understand thinhgs easily, but to understand and to deliver the same in exam papers is completely different. So dont worry.

Coming to few of the important point discussed there, please see below:

Pass Percentage: 12-15% of the total appeared (not enrolled).
Total Application received this year: 2000 (Approximately)
Exam center: Bangalore. There is discussion going on for adding few more centre for the students coming from long distance.
Contact Classes: As of now it happens only in Bangalore campus. NLSIU DED is going to add few more centres via Video Conference.
Next Exam: June
Library: You can use the NLSIU library and any other Law school (?) library after providing the request letter given along with the study material.
No hostel facilities for the outstation student at the time of exam.
CD of the contact classes will be available , after sending the DD you can avail it.
Approximalteyly 250 students attended the Contact Class.
There are some groups in Yahoo and google: MBL-NLSIU in yahoo and NLSIU_MBL in google as well.
Pleased join those group we will beavilable to help you with any information you require.

Hi....its unfortunate that nobody has replied to your thread (despite a fairly active Indian presence on this website)! Anyway, just to answer your question -- I am not a student of NLSIU, Bangalore, although I am in my final year of a three-year LL.B. course from a fairly reputed institution in India. I know a lot of people from my college who do the MBL degree while completing their LL.B.s. (I have not done it myself). It is a preferred choice of degree for a lot of students in India wanting to know more about the business and commercial aspects of law in India, and draws students from fairly diverse backgrounds (not necessarily legal). From what friends who are currently doing the course tell me, it is not easy, but regular study throughout the year helps a lot.

If you'd like to speak to some who are still doing the course, pl email me and let me know! It wont be a problem at all!

Hi all
Im an engineer working in an asset management firm. Have completed on level of CFA parallely with engineering and now work with an asset management firm. Plan to work for a few years and top it up with an MBA abroad. Currently working and preparing for other CFA levels.

Because im toying with the idea of trying my hand at private equity in the near future, and maybe someday becoming an entrepreneur, I was thinking of learning business law on the side. That is when I cam across the MBL course offered by NLS. My primary motive for enrolling in the course is only learning and profile building. I plan to enroll for the next year (after completing my CFA level exam though), depending on your advice...

I had a few queries and would be glad if you guys could please help me out.

1. How relevant is the MBL program in my case. (have highlighted my profile above)?
2. Is this the best business law distance education course in India?
3. How many hours per day would roughly be required to clear the course (assuming a student of average intelligence with no background in law)?
4. The course has some Viva/practical exams mentioned in the website. Any idea what that is about?
5. Are there any projects/assignments expected to be completed during the course?
6. Will study material be provided by the college?

I would be really, really grateful if you guys could help me out.
Regards
Aditya

Hi, Aditya, By your post you look very ambituous. In my reply i am not going to answer your qeustions as it was already done by Mr. Arorasid.

Its good idea to takeup MBL after finishing your CFA. However, in my view, as you are working in asset management company, I don't see any added value you will get by doing MBL, because out of entire MBL curriculum, except Investment law and corporate law(to some extent), other law subjects are not much useful for your future planning (as you narrated in your post). however, having a good legal knowledge is always beneficial to anybody. So, BEST of LUCK.

If I have to prioritise in between MBL and MBA, your idea of having MBA abraod sounds better suited to your career map than MBL. If you already have atleast 2 or 3 years work experience, then its better you concentrate on planning your MBA. You can pursue MBL after finishing your MBA and returing back to india thereafter.
