Will I get in?

TCswe

I am working on my application for pursuing the LLM-degree at a law school in California, preferably in LA. The top two schools that I am interested in is UCLA and USC.

My question is what the schools are looking for in a applicant? Is there anything I should focus on when I am working on my application for those schools?

I really want to get in to one of those schools and Ive been working on my application since January 2016. I graduated from Stockholm university, Sweden, in december 2015, and after that I started to work as a law clerk for the district court in Linköping. I have also studied abroad for one semester at the University of Oklahoma and I did an internship in a law firm in LA. I have some other experience as well. I scored 104 of TOEFL (28 writing, 28 listening, 24 speaking and 24 reading). In my personal statement I focus on my background, as I was born in Bangladesh but raised in Sweden, I also speak about my experiences, but mostly focus on why I want to join the schools.

What do you think of my chances of getting in? I feel like this is the perfect time in my life to apply for a LLM, and hopefully I will get in.

Best from Sweden.

Hey,

Im going to apply for a general LLM, but I know that USC offers three different types of certifications in business, arbitration and entertainment law. My plan is to try to take a certification in either Arbitration law och business law, depending on what course Ill need to take to qualify for the California bar exam.

Don't know about entertainment law (I'm sure they have great LLMs in California) nor business, but for arbitration you DO WANT to check the MIDS in Geneva and Queen Mary in London. I know for a fact the MIDS offers a GREAT program, and I heard the same thing about Queen Mary.

Even if you want to study in the US, make sure you check these programs first. If I am sure you can have GREAT LLMs in the US, for some subjects it is not such a good idea (for example in Public international law, where you can have MUCH CHEAPER programs which are often better than in the US - better avoid the US if you want to study PIL).
