Hi Elelem,
I think i remember your post in the UPenn decision.
I have been wait listed and I was just wondering if you could give more details about the chances of getting admitted to UPenn from the wait listed candidates.
Do you have any idea if regional diversity plays a big role in the decisions for the wait listed candidates.
whether you would only be offered admission only if another person from your country rejects UPenn's offer.
Say for that matter, a Brazilian will refuse UPenn's offer, will the seat only fall to another Brazilian or can the same seat also be offered to a German or an Indian?

Mydav09,

I am an Indian, and I was wait listed last year at Penn . The mail came in Feb first week. I haggled with them till May end , and then they finally offered me a seat, which I did not take.

As I understand regional diversity is an unofficial system in all Universities. They want diversity, for obvious reasons , one of which is that they can boast about it and second, more importantly it increases the quality of the class. So ideally, they like to maintain a certain ratio of diversity amongst students

However, they are at a liberty to divert from this pattern. But the odds as i believe are that if a Brazilian will refuse UPenn's offer, the chances are more that a seat will be offered to another Brazilian.

Regards
