You should indeed do that and don't hesitate to call. I called them today and the lady was extremely helpful and willing to talk. She asked me to let her know if I have any stiff deadlines which require a quicker decision from Harvard. I said I didn't in which case she said that decisions should be mailed at the latest by Mar. 22, 2007.

Hi! Just wondering... what is the "stiff deadline" for NYU? EG, in the letter of admission that was sent to me -- the deadline is MAY 1. I guess, all top schools are making decisions by that time unless you are on a waiting list, probably...

Is it ok to convey the acceptance in another U.S university by paying a non-refundable deposit and then take admission (say in a school like HLS) simply coz one wants to goto a school like HLS? Is it a common phenomenon?

yep you can but its not the proper thing to do, ethics-wise. you'd be depriving someone else of a spot in that other school and it might be too late for the school to offer it to someone else by the time you decline. why not just ask for an extension? and you'll save some money in the process.

Thanks for that ricey....am just thinking of a hypothetical situation as Harvard is definitely a long shot. The problem being with the school Ive got admission is that they had stiff deadlines when it comes to scholarship and hence the problem.

I'm not sure if anyone would know this, but I was just wondering if HLS sends out both acceptance letters and rejection letters at the same time? That way by the end of this month, we will all know one way or the other. Any idea?

Hi everyone. I wrote to HLS to ask them when decisions are going to be released, and have attached the reply below, for your reference...

I am writing to you in response to your e-mail requesting information regarding our admission decisions. I understand that you have received an admission and scholarship offer from NYU Law School.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with a definitive answer before March 15, 2007. If you cannot get an extension until at least March 22, 2007, then I would have to advise you not to give up the scholarship package offered by NYU for the possibility of being admitted to Harvard Law School, especially since we will not be able to provide you with our financial aid decisions until early April.

I hope this will help you make an informed decision. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best for the coming year.

So, what are you going to do? I'm in a similar situation. I think I might have to accept either NYU or Columbia.
