Actually , having the full Hauser, it would be a very tough decision. Are you getting any financial aid from HLS?

NYU will offer you a unique oppurtunity to live in the melting pot of our times. Like Rome or Athens in the ancient history, now New York represents the circulation of the ideas and cultures. Nonetheless, Harvard has a better reputation in terms of faculty. Hard choice

What field are you interested in and what is it that you want to do in the future? What do these two schools offer in those fields? I think these are key questions we must hear the answer to before giving you advice. Without this information, Harvard and NYU are only names, and if the name is the measure, it seems clear that Harvard has a stronger one. But if it an education you seek, you must ask yourself more specific questions.

i'm pursuing a specialization, for which nyu is very well known. they also offered me a very (very!) generous scholarship.
harvard will let me know tomorrow if they'll give me any financial aid.
thanks.

Then wait for the decision regarding Harvard's financial and start stressing afterwards :). But I thought you were totally convinced about going to NYU tax program ? Why did you change your mind suddently ?
Posted Apr 11, 2005 21:57
Do you have (or do you expect to have) the money to afford HLS?.
If not, go to NYU. You will not have a lower salary because of choosing NYU instead of HLS.

"You will not have a lower salary because of choosing NYU instead of HLS."
Only if you have enough solid working experience before entering the LLM program.

I think you should try a pros and cons list, seriously, with professors names on the field you want to study, finances, even the academic environment in combination with your lifestyle.Put everything on the list, statistics, cities, anything at all,ask the universities for info.Take a whole day for that,do it. If I were you, that is what I d do,very seriously. You are the only one to reach a decision.I would not go so much with advice if I were you,and I d only ask advice after I had my list ready.
Hauser sounds just great, but I am in international law,so my word does not count so much, you like taxation law, right? So,do the list!
It is a really tough choice, but I bet so many would love to be in your shoes :))))))))))). All the best of luck!

hi,
finally, having endured dozens of sleepless nights as well as a trip to new york and boston and having talked to at least(!) 80 people about this issue.... i've chosen harvard over nyu.... and believe it or not, i've already told hls, which is why this time, my choice is definitive ;-)
just wanted to let you know, thanks for everybody's advice!

Did Harvard give you full financial aid.. I can't beleive you turned down Hauser

1) yep, 20k
2) it was interesting to learn three things about the scholarship during the last couple of weeks:
(a) practically no-one outside the academic world knows this award.
(b) those (employers) who do, don't care.
(c) this year, for example, there are no less than 7 (seven!) people at hls who turned down the award. i also met two guys who didn't receive any(!) grant from hls but nonetheless went there.
generally, people were more amazed by the 20k grant from hls than by the nyu award

It is great that you didn't succomb to the temptation of an entirely free LLM (I believe they even cover the air fare) and decided to go to a place that suits ur interests better. Congratulations! Such a decision takes a good deal of courage!
It is interesting what you are saying about the Hauser and people's awareness of it. NYU claims the Hauser scholars are the Rhodes scholars of the legal world . Apparently, not everyone thinks so.
