yeah. it is pretty strange, especially considering that yskywalker heard back weeks ago. I can only assume that the administration is having a difficult time because we are all so incredibly qualified. ;) We'll hear soon though. I think they have to start notifying people next week for visa purposes.

I wish philster. I've resorted to examining my karma to see if there's anything that can be done on that level. However, I was looking at the old threads from last year and it seemed people began hearing news of their status this week. Because UCLA extended the application deadline back in February, this whole process has been about 10 days off of where it was last year. It would seem logical to begin hearing late next week at the earliest, but more the following week (as much as it pains me to say). Y'all holding up alright?

No news so far. Not sure we should be counting on this, as it looks dire. However, it seems like many people from this board gave up their spots, so who knows? Has anyone spoken to Mr Telesino recently? I wish he would post on the thread like he did last year, though I suppose no news is good news at this point.

I think the earlier post from "Guest 104" may have been from Vic. I did speak with him in mid may, and while he didn't give me any real timeline (mainly because he can't seeing as he is not the one who makes the selections) he did mention that they really try to get all the wait list invites out before the end of June. UCLA is aware that the Visa process can be long and aims to give the proper time to those applicants requiring it. That said, he also mentioned that in the past there have been an applicant or two who have been extended admission all the way up until the week before school is to begin (obviously this would only apply to domestic applicants). He also mentioned that a decent number of the class is admitted from the wait list -- somewhere between 10 and 20% of those on the list are admitted if I remember correctly.

Other notes of positivity. It seems that more people applied this year in large part because people applied to many more schools than usual, which I think is what piccolittle was getting at. It could be that with more people applying to more schools there will be more who reject UCLA and a consequent increase in the amount of folks admitted from the wait list. I wouldn't be surprised if more than 20% of those waitlisted were admitted this year.

I guess all of this is to say that we should remain positive because we still have a chance (a real one) and that word from the school really must come within the next few weeks for most (I'm guessing next week). Good luck everyone. Let's continue to use the board for mutual support.

Don't know the exact number, nor do I think we could know. I seem to recall Vic indicating that it was about a hundred, maybe a bit less.

Even im on the wait list, keeping fingers crossed. Otherwise I will have to re-apply next year. I have not gotten admission anywhere else. But I do hear that California has had a lot of budget cuts this year, so im guessing that there would be a spillover of that into UCLA, because its a school that gets aid from the government. So, if UCLA gets lesser aid, they would have to take more students than last year to get the same amount of fees (assuming that they keep the fees constant)

I think all of us are hoping that the wait list may be a bit larger this year. It would make sense right? But at the same time, the faculty to student ratio is always a factor in rankings and something that the university would not want to dilute too much. It'll be interesting to see. Good luck to you shaunak!! We're bound to find out sooner than later. :)

As an international student, my main concern is the visa and accommodation matters. Does anyone know about the chace for immigration office to consider our visa within very short period. I do also believe that it might be relatively difficult to get a reasonable price room within a short time.

While it's just speculation, I must assume that the school knows you will have time to get a visa if accepted, otherwise I doubt they would waste your time and theirs. That is the main reason I feel like many of us absolutely must find out soon.

As for housing, it depends on whether you want to live on campus (which would be the financially smart thing to do). I bet the school holds rooms for international LLM students (my American law school did that for their LLMs), but you should call UCLA and find out. I wouldn't be surprised if an email or two calmed your worries. Good luck!!

Another week down... :(

I'm sure it's a good sign at this point that they're really taking the time to evaluate each of us as individuals, but it's so odd to me that only one person on this board has heard so far from the wait list. I don't have much hope for my chances (though I would honestly kill to go there), but good luck to the rest!

I must admit, I am shocked no one heard this week. I really thought this had to be the week for many people because of the visa process. If this week truly was your limit, then I feel for you. I still maintain hope that we all hear positive news, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to remain optimistic. Good luck to you. Perhaps the situation is not as dire as you believe.
