Not yet, but I intend to take this specialization. I saw at web page that you need a separate application after you been admitted. Do you have any additional info about it?

Hahaha, I laugh because we have a lot of post talking about UCLA v/s USC, but without any intention to offend anyone here I been heard about USC only on LLM-Guide. In my country USC do not have a reputation

I don't see why UCLA's reputation is so great in your country. It's not like either of them are T14. USC is only ranked 4 places behind UCLA?

In Chile, UCLA is more popular than USC, mainly because this last 8 years the national scholarship system (Becas Chile) concede grants based on the ranking of the University (QS and Times), and UCLA has a great overall ranking.

Also, The US news ranking is not very well known in Chile.

Ah okay, that's very interesting to note. Thank you for that explanation.

Of course UCLA is going to be so highly ranked when considered overall, their medicine and engineering faculties are why they are considered so brilliant. It doesn't seem to make much sense to me, when posting on an LLM site, to consider the overall ranking and not the specific law school ranking. It also doesn't seem to make much sense to me to look at anything other than a US ranking... when applying to a school which is in the US. I certainly wouldn't trust and English ranking! And looking at the QS list... I can say for certain that the English schools on the list have not been well ranked at all.

I find it baffling that orders of rankings can change so drastically when considered internationally. I don't think they really mean anything at all.

Yes, Becas Chile (scholarship) takes rank by University and not by Law School, and in this case UCLA is 12', and USC is 51 on ARWU and 75 on THE ranking. You need to demonstrate that your Law School is good if you want obtain Becas Chile Scholarship, but is difficult against a bad rank. In this case UCLA has better rank as University and as Law School than UCS (even US News)

That seems arbitrary. If you're applying to a law school, only the law school should matter, not how successful their... veterinarian school is?!

UCLA is also only one place behind Berkeley on this list. Does that mean that a lot of people are under the impression that UCLA Law is as good as Berkeley Law? Because that is quite funny. At least there will be less competition for people waiting to hear from Berkeley.

I have an consultant who has been working for over 20 years in US. She told me that just forget about UCLA and she recommended me not to accept to be held in waiting list of UCLA after receiving admission from USC. However, she definately recommended me to wait for berkeley.

That's what I would expect. I think UCLA's rank has been over-inflated somewhat. I definitely wouldn't hold out for their waitlist. They're not worth the long wait until June.

Candidates can still show other rankings to prove the quality of their program.

Becas Chile has also rankings per area, but not a specific one of Law Schools (they fall into 'social sciences'). For SJD/PHD they have a specific Law one based on academic impact.

Sadly, Becas Chile can't use US News as a primary ranking since it covers posgraduate studies in different countries and across different disciplines.

Therefore, I think that the program isn't arbitrary, but also can overrate some schools/programs. Still, even the most tailored rankings also have their own flaws and overrate/underrate some programs.

You're right, I don't think the ranking system really represents any school well. It's a very cold and objective approach.
