I have just graduated from the LLM program at UC Hastings.
When I first arrived in California to further my legal education, I shopped a little bit around to find a law school that would offer me a high standard legal education for a somewhat reasonable cost. I know that sounds very demanding. But Hastings fulfilled my expectation!!!
My expectation was high...but obviously, Hastings' expectation was as high as mine: I did not expect to work that hard due to my legal background in civil law. I thought it would be easy...well, well, well. It turned out that I was wrong.
Once the program started, it was like being in the middle of a "legal" tornado. I had to go back to my "legal" drawing table, to dust what was left of my brain, and to ride this tornado. It was a refreshing, challenging, and thrilling experience! I loved it! I must confess that sometimes I cursed the common law system that complicates even the simplest matter, but it was short time curse...smile).
I have to add to this comment that the professors I had were excellent, especially in Constitutional law. Participating in their classes was a great experience, despite the fact that I did not convince them to change their points of view... (Smile...I may try again...). They are amongst the pool of the few professors that have impressed me by their knowledge...and friendly attitude (and I went to different law schools in France, England and the USA).
Lastly, should you decide to join the LLM Program at UC Hastings, you will get strong support from Joel Paul, the Director of this program, and from Pamela Serota. They made my life easier during the two semesters.
Therefore, I give to the LLM program a note of 8.50 / 10 (A+).
Have fun there and be ready to work!...and give yourself the time to enjoy the city.
